The True Meaning of the New Feature Wasn't This

"Lord Roger, Lord Roger! Magic Encyclopedia has been completed, and the basic knowledge you asked me to filter out has all been uploaded. What should we do next? Should we release this feature directly?"

Early in the morning, Roger woke from his sleep. The instant he opened the window, Book appeared from who knew where again.

Even though he had obtained Divinity, even though a great deal of faith power had gathered within him, Roger still often dreamed of being sacrificed.

According to Betty and Book's analysis, that incident had most likely been branded deep into his soul. After becoming a Divine Spirit, it had been further strengthened. Perhaps only after he became a god could he completely escape the nightmare-like experience that haunted him.

Letting out a long breath of scorching air, Roger barely managed to calm himself and cast aside the oppression left by his dream. "Install it on my Magic Net Ring first. I'll test it out, and if there are no problems, we'll release it."

Magic Encyclopedia was another new feature Roger had conceived after the two major features of Magic Space and Private Chat.

It was like the online encyclopedias of his previous life, such as Wikipedia and Qiandu Encyclopedia—a reference tool that every Magic Web user could freely edit and consult.

After testing it, Roger found no problems aside from its simplicity, which left him quite satisfied. "It's good. Release it!"

The moment those words left his mouth, Book's surface visibly gave off a flash of red light. It seemed Roger's approval had made it very happy.

Horace sat rather bored in the corner of the laboratory, scrolling through Magic Space and answering questions from recently emerged users. Even as the first person in the capital to activate a Magic Net Ring, the only thought that instantly surfaced in his mind when faced with this feature was that it was unbelievable!

He simply could not believe it!

Everyone agreed that all knowledge was precious.

In this world, nobles always liked to use their family libraries to prove their wealth. Mages always demanded that their apprentices pay a certain price before they could learn any new knowledge. But now, this new feature on the Magic Internet actually asked people to enter their own knowledge and share it with others for free... How could anyone possibly be willing to do that?

Horace soon found proof of his thoughts in Magic Space.

"My god! Has the Magic Goddess been bewitched by that Technology God? How could She come up with such a terrifying idea?"

"Sharing the knowledge you possess for free, and allowing anyone to view it without charge? This... this is simply incomprehensible!"

"There are rumors that the Magic Goddess is the teacher of dragons, elves, humans, and all spellcasters. That does fit Her usual logic."

"Even when teaching apprentices, you must let them understand the value of knowledge. It absolutely should not be shared freely and unconditionally like this!"

As Horace read the comments from these "esteemed mages," he could not help revealing an expression of just as I thought.

At the same time, he could not help thinking that much knowledge seemed to have vanished from the world precisely because of people like them clinging stubbornly to old ways.

Take his teacher, the unlucky Duru, for instance. He had been researching a rune called Floating Rune. It was a miraculous rune discovered eight hundred years ago by a famous Archmage of the Dawn Kingdom. As long as it was inscribed onto a carpet, even a low-level mage could fly.

Yet now, not a single mage in their Rune Society, the entire capital, or even the entire magical world could reproduce it.

If there had been a Magic Encyclopedia back then, if that legendary Archmage had been able to preserve Floating Rune, then would most mages today have been able to master such a flying magical tool?

Horace's thoughts gradually drifted away...

In truth, quite a few people shared similar thoughts.

"Lord Roger, it isn't that I want to question you, but the public opinion... the direction of public opinion in Magic Space really isn't very good. Everyone seems to believe that knowledge can only be exchanged for something of equal value. They even think knowledge should remain in their own hands rather than be taught to anyone else.
