As he spoke, he swallowed the Gum-Gum Fruit.

Luffy's eating speed was no joke. In the blink of an eye, the Devil Fruit before him disappeared down his throat. His face twisted as though he were constipated; apparently, it tasted awful. Red-Hair opened his mouth wide and yelled in shock, "Ah... Luffy ate the Devil Fruit! Spit it out, quick!"

Ren watched the bizarre scene unfold. He had even wanted to stop Luffy from eating the Gum-Gum Fruit, but in that instant, he realized he simply couldn't. Luffy ate too quickly—his speed practically rivaled light itself. Even Ren couldn't keep up and could only watch him swallow the Gum-Gum Fruit. He wondered whether this was fate at work, whether the Gum-Gum Fruit was destined to belong to Luffy.

Ren smiled, then gave Shiryu, who stood behind him, a meaningful look.

Shiryu immediately understood and brought over a box from behind him.

Ren took a hat from the box. It was the hat Ace would wear in the future, the one his mother had left him.

Ren picked up the hat and pressed it onto Luffy's head. "Luffy... I'm entrusting this hat to you. Someday, you'll meet its owner. His name is Ace. Give him the hat and tell him his mother left it for him. Also, I have what his father left him. If he wants it, tell him to come ask me for it in the New World!"

As he spoke, Ren stood up and took a sip of red wine.

The bar fell silent. Everyone stared at Ren without a word. Red-Hair looked at his own straw hat, then at the hat on Luffy's head. "That's a pretty cool hat!"

Red-Hair understood what Ren meant. As he stared at the hat, he too drifted into his memories.
