History

Notting Academy

Tang San arrives at Notting Academy with Innate Full Soul Power and the seemingly ordinary Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul. When a guard threatens Old Jack, he knocks the man down and reaches for a concealed weapon with the intention of killing him before Yu Xiaogang intervenes. 1

Yu Xiaogang deduces that Tang San possesses Twin Martial Souls from the incompatibility between Blue Silver Grass and his innate power. Tang San accepts him as his teacher by kneeling and kowtowing three times, treating the bond with the gravity owed to a parent. 2

In Dorm Seven, Tang San easily defeats Wang Sheng but loses a leadership duel to Xiao Wu after underestimating her Soft Technique. He later accompanies Yu Xiaogang into the Soul Hunting Forest, protects him from the Mandala Snake, accepts the dangerous ring-absorption experiment, and detoxifies his teacher afterward. 4 7

Growth at Shrek Academy

Tang San's trust in Yu Xiaogang shapes his growing hostility toward Wang Feng, particularly after Yu Xiaogang dismisses Wang Feng's independent cultivation. He reaches Rank 20, acquires the Ghost Vine's Parasite skill, and becomes increasingly distant from Wang Feng while growing more possessive of Xiao Wu. 13

At Shrek Academy, he gains a Man Faced Demon Spider Spirit Ring and an External Soul Bone after attempting to save Xiao Wu from the Titan Giant Ape. The ring's age surpasses Yu Xiaogang's proclaimed limit, forcing his teacher to reconsider his theory. 40

During the Continental Advanced Soul Master Tournament, Tang San repeatedly relies on Tang Sect techniques, the Eight Spider Soul Bone, and the Clear Sky Hammer. He reveals the hammer publicly against the Hell White Tiger and uses Zhu Zhuqing's earlier wounds as the basis for a successful counterattack. 146

Losses and Vengeance

Tang Hao reveals that Spirit Hall was responsible for Ah Yin's death, causing Tang San to swear vengeance against Spirit Hall. He continues toward Spirit City despite the danger, trusting that his father will protect him from the shadows. 134

Tang San later raids Dugu Bo's Icefire Yin Yang Well, harvesting nearly all remaining mature herbs and attempting to take its extreme spring water. Dugu Bo catches him, destroys his hidden weapons, severely injures him, and poisons him. 113

After Tang Hao is executed by the Heaven Dou Empire, Tang San becomes enraged at the Clear Sky Sect for failing to rescue his father. He leaves to obtain his fifth Spirit Ring, vows revenge against the Heaven Dou Empire, Spirit Hall, and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, and pursues the possibility of finding Xiao Wu. 259

Yu Xiaogang's death further destabilizes him. Believing his teacher's accusations against Jin Lian, Tang San attacks her and attempts to kill her infant before Flender intervenes and escapes with them. 315

God of Slaughter and Final Battle

After Flender exposes his location to the Heaven Dou Empire, Tang San escapes pursuit and discovers the inheritance of the God of Slaughter. He accepts the inheritance to pursue overwhelming power and vengeance. 320

He later uses the Blade of Slaughter to massacre Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect strongholds, Heaven Dou soldiers, and other Soul Masters in Heaven Dou City, treating the killings as progress toward his third Divine Trial. 353

As leader of the rebuilt Tang Sect, Tang San refuses Spirit Hall Empire demands to submit. He plans to forge hidden weapons, collect poisons, complete his Divine Trial, and destroy Wang Feng, Bibi Dong, and the empire. 401

Having become the Second-Level God of Slaughter, Tang San attacks the Spirit Hall Empire alone. Qian Renxue overpowers his Clear Sky Hammer, and Wang Feng ultimately breaks him psychologically by revealing Xiao Wu alive and aligned with him, then displaying Ah Yin as well. Personality

Tang San is intensely protective of those he recognizes as kind to him. As a child, he is prepared to kill a guard for threatening Old Jack; he later risks himself to protect Yu Xiaogang and treats the poison infecting his teacher after the Mandala Snake battle. 1 7

He is fiercely loyal to Yu Xiaogang, repeatedly placing his teacher's reputation and expectations above his own judgment. He protects Yu Xiaogang when Wang Feng exposes that Tang Sect techniques were not taught by the Grandmaster, and he refuses to concede against Wang Feng largely because Yu Xiaogang is watching. 56 58

Tang San is competitive, proud, and unwilling to accept defeat. His jealousy toward Wang Feng's closeness with Xiao Wu contributes to their estrangement, while his later battles repeatedly escalate because he refuses surrender even when Shrek is decisively losing. 13 56 150

Grief progressively turns his determination into paranoia and ruthlessness. After the deaths of Tang Hao and Yu Xiaogang, he accepts unverified accusations, targets former allies, pursues divine power through slaughter, and treats mass killing as a practical means of completing his trial. 315 320 353
