Chopper
A mouthful of old blood caught in Hiruluk's throat.
He had originally wanted to cheer for the new king, but now he began worrying about whether he could pass the new king's test.
Dr. Kureha's laughter drew no attention, because many less-skilled doctors were quietly worrying as well.
In particular, many doctors had not dealt with any fundamentally difficult or complicated cases for a long time. Most of the time, they only treated common injuries, colds, and chills. They deeply doubted their own abilities.
"The entire medical system will have ten levels, divided into two major categories—internal medicine and surgery—and over a dozen smaller fields, such as orthopedics and neurology. All doctors can advance through the levels one step at a time."
"Every year, the entire country will hold standardized ranking examinations. You may register directly for any of the ten levels. Of course, the exams will be prepared by the twenty doctors from the former royal medical corps." The twenty doctors stood up and bowed proudly to their peers. Clearly, they had been the country's top twenty doctors, but the former royal recognition of their excellence was no longer enough. Now that they had become the chief examiners responsible for setting everyone's tests, it naturally represented acknowledgment of their abilities.
As the saying went, one learned the arts and sold them to the ruler's household. But the ruler's household here did not merely refer to a monarch; it referred to the regime. The ultimate goal was to become an official, or rather, to become someone with power.
That person in power might be a dean who could decide whether students at a school graduated, a hospital director who could determine staff transfers, the principal of some athletic school, a national team coach, and so on...
That was power.
