Chapter 34: Spade Pirates

On the vast sea, it was rare to find such peace, especially in the Grand Line, where such tranquility was seen only once every hundred days.

This should have been a rare day of rest, but the members of the Spade Pirates had no intention or atmosphere for it.

Everyone lay on the deck like dried fish, like fish out of water.

Clearly, they hadn't eaten or drunk anything for several days.

It was peculiar, the Spade Pirates' formation was quite complex, with long-limbed individuals and Fish-Men, and even a Cook, a rarity in other pirate crews, but they had no Navigator.

Good Navigators were rare talents throughout the seas, mostly monopolized by the Marines. It was no wonder Arlong and Golden Lion were so covetous of Nami; even among the Navigators of the New World, Nami's talent was the strongest.

So, naturally, even an Admiral like Golden Lion wanted Nami.

And unfortunately, the Spade Pirates didn't just lack good Navigators, they lacked a Navigator altogether.

Their navigation relied entirely on a member nicknamed "Teacher" to lead them. This "Teacher" was actually just an amateur who had read a few books on navigation. If their strength wasn't so formidable, they wouldn't have been able to travel this far into the Grand Line.

They indeed couldn't use any Haki, nor had anyone eaten a Devil Fruit. But don't forget, before entering the Grand Line, Zoro and Sanji were already strong enough to rival Arlong. As for Ace, defeating Arlong was no problem at all.

And Ace's companions, after Ace was incorporated, became one of Whitebeard Pirates' forty-three subsidiary pirate crews. Clearly, they were not to be trifled with; each of them was a formidable fighter comparable to Zoro or Sanji—though perhaps with a few idiots among them.

Such a pirate crew was almost a replica of the Straw Hat Pirates, with a joyful atmosphere filling the ship—if they weren't fleeing desperately into such a place while being chased.

"I say, Captain, why don't we just crush that little girl? Why keep running? Capture that little girl, and once it's done, she'll have to comply whether she wants to or not," someone said weakly, leaning on the ship's railing. He was rather short, with a slightly prognathic jaw. He was a Scorpionfish Fish-Man named Rewos, his body covered in red. Besides his sharp teeth, he had several fin-like barbs on his body, like those of a Peking Opera warrior. Barbs also protruded from his short-sleeved arms, clearly indicating his strong combat power.

One could logically deduce how strong the Captain was to be able to subdue such a Fish-Man.

"You unromantic idiot, shut up," a tall man with blue hair cursed.

He was implicitly the First Mate of this ship, one of the few reliable people on board, and the Ship Doctor, second only in importance to the Navigator. So, when he spoke, the Fish-Man stopped talking.

They were fleeing here because they were being pursued by a group of Marines, almost losing their way. In the Grand Line, without a Log Pose that had recorded multiple islands, it would only point to the last island visited.

Because of this, they were chased by the Marines and fled the island, losing their direction. Their current Log Pose recorded the location of their last island, and by now, they were a hundred thousand miles away from that island.

Going back was impossible, so they could only grit their teeth and continue drifting forward without a Log Pose.

The most difficult part was that they were being pursued by a female Marine who was trying to bring Ace to justice. She had some feelings for Ace but was hesitant to kill him.

Otherwise, they could have easily wiped out the Marines behind them and continued drifting forward slowly.

"Yosh, I've decided," Ace suddenly jumped down from the mast. The entire ship almost shook twice, and everyone sprawled on the deck was jolted awake by the commotion.

"Let's go and raid Iska's warship and find her Log Pose."

Iska was the female Marine who had been chasing Ace.

"Captain, you've finally come to your senses!" Everyone else's faces showed immense joy. Clearly, having run out of supplies, they had no other choice.

Moreover, it was the most stable option, as Iska was constantly following them, a very obvious target.

However, doing so would mean the Captain's future happiness was gone. The Ship Doctor, Masked-Deuce, wore a wry smile. He dared to guarantee that Ace's "decision" definitely didn't include these things, but...

The entire Spade Pirates crew became spirited. Although they hadn't eaten or drunk anything for a day, they would soon have food and rum!

Suddenly, a huge black shadow slowly enveloped them.

When they looked back, a ship as tall as a mountain, pulled by two sea snakes, appeared before them.

Everyone in the Spade Pirates swallowed hard, watching the two Sea Kings lower their heads to examine them, instinctively tensing their bodies.

"Hey, it's the Kuja Pirates!" the Ship Doctor Masked-Deuce whispered. He was one of the crew members who paid more attention to the news, so he naturally knew the Kuja Pirates were Shichibukai. The distinctive sea snakes made them instantly recognizable.

"It's a Shichibukai!"

Everyone on the Spade Pirates' faces showed excitement, some even looking eager. Regardless of anything else, Ace had been invited to become a Shichibukai after obtaining a Devil Fruit. Although it was boosted by his Logia-type Devil Fruit, the Spade Pirates' strong combat power was also Ace's confidence in becoming a Shichibukai.

In another two or three years, he could even fight evenly with the Knight of the Sea, Jinbe.

After examining them for a moment, the two sea snakes retreated. The bow of the Perfume Sea Serpent was soon filled with Amazon warrior women drawing their bows and arrows.

Radiating Haki, they drew their bows and arrows, locking onto everyone in the Spade Pirates.

PS1: Also, reporting on today's market performance. The US market opened with a full retaliatory rebound and all stocks were in the green. However, some people were still selling. Yesterday, all three markets dropped by about 7%-7.9%. Today, they opened up 3%, but now the Nasdaq has fallen to -1.5%, and the Dow Jones has fallen from a 3% gain to 1.5%. I think it's about time.
