Ch. 501Angry for the first time
Key plot points and events
- Sakura, Bepo, Mansherry, and Lily follow an underground passage and discover a cavern packed with treasure. They load it into large packs, planning to bring it out and then find Conis and the others.
- Above ground, Eldrago defeats Ain after a prolonged fight and captures her and Conis. He discovers the underground entrance and takes his crew there, hoping to claim the treasure.
- The group emerges into the hall carrying their loot and finds Conis and Ain battered and held captive. Sakura erupts in anger, unleashing Conqueror’s Haki that knocks out several pirates, then punches Eldrago through a wall.
- Sakura pursues Eldrago outside. He attacks with a powerful sound-wave cannon that pierces her chest, but her Phoenix Fruit powers heal her instantly. She counters with a devastating blow that shatters his armor and sends him crashing into a hill.
- Determined to punish him for hurting her friends, Sakura activates Return Life and escalates her attack, filling the sky with dark clouds and red lightning. A mysterious observer watches her transformation.
- Mansherry heals Ain and Conis. Conis, alarmed that Eldrago is a Shichibukai, rushes outside to warn Sakura.
Character developments and interactions
- Sakura shows a new depth to her character: this is the first time she has been truly angry, and her fury is driven by concern for Ain and Conis. Her strength proves formidable, combining Conqueror’s Haki, regenerative Phoenix powers, and Return Life.
- Ain is badly injured after fighting Eldrago but recovers much of her strength with Mansherry’s help.
- Conis is captured alongside Ain, then risks rushing into the battle to warn Sakura about Eldrago’s status.
- Mansherry responds to her friends’ injuries with urgent healing, while Lily openly condemns the pirates and shows her loyalty.
- Eldrago is revealed as a powerful, ruthless opponent with strong Haki and a sound-based attack. He recognizes Sakura’s Phoenix abilities but remains intent on the treasure.
- Bepo and the others’ excitement over their discovery contrasts sharply with the danger awaiting them.
Significant themes
- Loyalty and protection: Sakura’s anger comes from seeing her companions hurt, and Mansherry and Conis likewise act to protect their friends.
- Greed versus friendship: Eldrago’s fixation on treasure contrasts with the group’s bonds and concern for one another.
- Hidden strength and transformation: Sakura’s youthful appearance masks overwhelming power, while her first genuine anger marks a shift in how she fights.
