"For Lord Ares's sake, I won't hold what happened to Jack against you. That good-for-nothing wasn't strong enough. Maybe getting beaten up will teach him to know his limits. I'll report back to Brother Kaido that you've apologized. Yes, that's what I'll tell him." Queen planted his hands somewhere around his waist.

Rogge and the others exchanged looks. If they'd known it would be this easy, why had they kept their heads down? The matter with the Beasts Pirates had resolved itself just like that.

But Queen had given him a way out, so Rogge had to respond in kind. He smiled. "Perhaps we could get to know each other better."

"Of course! I've been dying to ask Lord Ares so many questions. You're practically a god to us!" Queen dropped to one knee before Ares and fluttered his spread fingers beside him, as though surrounded by sparkles.

Perched high on the sofa, Ares looked uncomfortable. Only now did it sink in that this round giant was Plague Queen, one of the Beasts Pirates' Three Calamities—a man who killed without batting an eye.

"Wonderful," Rogge said with a smile.

Queen immediately pulled out some research notes and began questioning Ares. Though Ares hadn't touched any of this in twenty years, he had spent his time in prison running experiments in his head and had amassed plenty of ideas. Queen's questions interested him. One asked, the other answered, and Ares even found new directions for his research in their exchange.

The two research madmen hit it off at once. Arms slung over each other's shoulders, they were like tinder catching fire. Queen took Ares to a room to continue their research.

Ares understood his position.
