Ch. 301A tea party invitation?
Plot points and events
- Rogge reads a newspaper report and is pleased that the public sees him as weaker than the Three Emperors and merely a Shichibukai. He and his crew return to Nightless City, now the Asura Pirates’ headquarters and a settled territory governed by their rules.
- Charlotte Linlin sends Rogge a crayon-drawn invitation to her tea party. Rogge passes it to the World Government, prompting the Five Elders to debate whether he should meet her.
- The Elders forbid the meeting, worried that contact could push Rogge toward the Big Mom Pirates and provoke the Navy. Rogge accepts their answer and discards the invitation.
- A few days later, Charlotte Galette arrives as Big Mom’s representative, offering an alliance and promising to help make Rogge an Emperor of the Sea. She also reveals Big Mom’s suspicion that Rogge killed Kuzan.
- Rogge grabs Galette and warns her to be careful. She admits the Big Mom Pirates have suspicions but no proof. She then passes on Big Mom’s offer that Galette will become Rogge’s woman if he agrees to ally with her.
- Rogge refuses the alliance but decides to keep Galette, carrying her into his castle. His crew drives off her accompanying Homies, who return to report to Big Mom. Enraged, Big Mom vows to kill him.
- The World Government and Navy hear of the incident. They are surprised that Rogge, supposedly injured by Red-Hair, is willing to antagonize Big Mom. The chapter ends by suggesting Rogge is tired of pretending to be weak.
Character developments and interactions
- Rogge continues to manage his public image while acting with confidence behind the scenes. He uses the invitation to signal the World Government, rejects Big Mom’s political offer, and reacts sharply when Galette hints at his role in Kuzan’s death. His decision to keep Galette escalates the conflict.
- The Five Elders regard Rogge as a useful ally and want to prevent him from aligning with Big Mom, though their confidence that they can control or support him is evident.
- Charlotte Galette serves as Big Mom’s envoy. She is bold enough to challenge Rogge with the Kuzan accusation and later becomes the object of his unwanted possessiveness.
- The crew trades jokes with Rogge on the way home and later protects his stronghold by driving back the Homies.
- Big Mom moves from a formal invitation to an attempted alliance, then to fury when Rogge rejects her terms and keeps Galette.
Significant themes
- Public image versus reality: Rogge benefits from being perceived as weaker than he is, while privately showing little fear of powerful rivals.
- Political maneuvering and uneasy alliances: The World Government, Navy, and Big Mom Pirates all try to influence Rogge, whose choices could shift the balance of power.
- Power, secrecy, and evidence: Big Mom’s intelligence network suspects Rogge killed Kuzan, but suspicion without proof leaves him protected.
- Escalation and control: Rogge’s provocative response to Galette turns a failed alliance proposal into a personal feud.
