Tokuma Hyuga was no exception. He had used his Byakugan extensively to scout the route that day, then used it again at the border to check the convoy for hidden people or dangerous items and count everyone in it. He needed a good rest too.
After Tokuma Hyuga and his partner went to rest, Hayama Shirakumo took Lin Chuan up to the roof of the outpost, where they could look straight down over the entire convoy's camp.
The border outpost did not have enough guest rooms for everyone. It could only accommodate the client, his daughter, and a few Land of Iron samurai whose identities had been verified, there to protect the client and his daughter while they slept.
The remaining samurai and the client's servants had to camp in the open. Torches were lit all around the camp, making it as bright as day so they could see everything happening inside.
The entire camp had been quiet since sunset. The servants had certainly been frightened badly that day, and even the samurai had seen plenty of fighting. Nothing happened during the first half of the night, which passed peacefully.
At midnight, Tokuma Hyuga and his partner came to relieve them. They added fuel to the camp's torches to keep the whole area lit, then took over from Lin Chuan and Hayama Shirakumo. The second half of the night was their turn to rest.
Before going to bed, Lin Chuan made a trip to the toilet. He had been holding it in through most of his watch. If he had known, he would not have drunk so much water.
"Ow..."
He had just stepped out of the toilet and turned when someone came barreling straight toward him. He could only dodge with a ninja's speed, leaving the person to crash
