Background

Lin Chuan is a reincarnator who had already died twice before awakening in the body of six-year-old Chiba Lin Chuan in Year 57 of Konoha. A task system forced him to select a novice mission under threat of death; he chose the comparatively safe task of eating beef three times. His system showed zero Life Points, meaning another death would be permanent. 2

His new family gave him an unusually secure starting point: his mother is a civilian, while his father is a Chunin who retired after being injured during the Nine-Tails' Attack. Though Lin Chuan privately regards them as “cheap” or nominal parents because of his transmigration, he recognizes the value of having food, shelter, and two living parents in Konoha. 2 13
