Background

Lin Chuan was originally unemployed and living alone before clicking a mysterious prompt that sent him into the Naruto world. His first transmigration ended almost immediately when a samurai stabbed him. His second placed him in the Land of Rain as a six-year-old orphan during the Second Shinobi World War, where the Explosion Corps killed him before he could complete his beginner mission. Throwing a stone chip during this second incarnation provided his first observed proficiency increase. 1

Lin Chuan is a reincarnator who had already died twice before awakening in the body of six-year-old Chiba Lin Chuan in Year 57 of Konoha. A task system forced him to select a novice mission under threat of death; he chose the comparatively safe task of eating beef three times. His new family gave him an unusually secure starting point: his mother is a civilian, while his father is a Chunin who retired after being injured during the Nine-Tails' Attack. Visible proficiency gains motivate him to train to exhaustion, and he evaluates techniques, people, and opportunities by their practical value. He is also calculating and morally flexible. Forced Entry into Root

Following the Uchiha massacre, Danzō personally visits Lin Chuan's home and pressures him into joining the ANBU training department, effectively Root. Lin Chuan agrees because resisting would place both himself and his parents at risk. 24 26

Within Root, he endures Forest of Death survival training, forms a partnership with Terai, and develops Heavenly Weeping through Shadow Clone-assisted experimentation. 31 33 35

Root Selection Battles and Missions

Lin Chuan survives Root's monthly deathmatches by defeating Number Seven with Water Release tactics and overwhelming Sai with Chunin-level Body Flicker. His ruthlessness becomes increasingly explicit when he regrets being prevented from killing Sai for Life Points. 38 39

He subsequently raises Water Prison to Genin proficiency and devises combinations with Water Clone. Meanwhile, Kosuke returns to Konoha, learns of his forced recruitment, and explains to his father that apparent cooperation had protected the family from Danzō. 51

Kusagakure Undercover Operation

Root sends Lin Chuan to infiltrate Kusagakure under the identity of a newly graduated orphan Genin. He exploits the cover identity's resemblance and compatible Water Release repertoire, masking the lower half of his face and joining a Grass Ninja team. 52 54

During a deer-hunting mission, he kills Kazami, Bulemi, and their Preta Path captain, concealing the murders as attacks by wild animals. He returns as the supposed lone survivor and receives treatment through Karin's healing ability. The deaths increase his Life Points from three to six. 55 56 57

He continues targeting qualifying Grass Ninja while deliberately postponing advancement that would disqualify weaker victims. Kosuke accompanies Lin Chuan to meet Hiruzen and Danzō. Hiruzen challenges Danzō's use of Root and defends Lin Chuan's right to study with his teacher. Danzō reluctantly permits his departure but reveals his violent undercover record in an effort to make Hiruzen distrust him. 63

Lin Chuan returns home and reunites with his parents. Kosuke, now promoted to Jonin, resolves to train him until he can protect himself. They retain his Academy enrollment to preserve his education and relationships, then leave Konoha discreetly for intensive training without informing Danzō. 65

During two months of special training, Kosuke tests his ninjutsu and requires repeated weapon attacks throughout the day to develop practical combat ability. Lin Chuan returns with Chunin strength, improved Water affinity, and a newly recorded swordsmanship discipline. 66 67

After roughly two years away from his classmates, he resumes Academy attendance. Kabuto approaches him with a proposal involving Sasuke, and Lin Chuan agrees in exchange for a high-quality Chakra Blade.
