• Lin Chuan fought Kabuto Yakushi at full speed, wounded him to confirm he was not a clone, and surrendered when he could not defeat him.
• Hayama Shirakumo, Asuma, and Might Guy arrested Kabuto as a suspected spy and sealed his chakra, allowing Lin Chuan to stab and kill him.
• Hiruzen Sarutobi ordered Kabuto's body taken for interrogation, but Orochimaru ambushed the escort and stole the corpse; Hiruzen later learned Kabuto had been Orochimaru's spy.

After Tsunade made Lin Chuan an ANBU member codenamed Shadow and assigned him to watch Sasuke, Lin Chuan let Sasuke defect and was sent to protect Shikamaru’s pursuit squad. He secretly defeated the Sound Four one by one, then reached the Valley of the End as Naruto and Sasuke’s confrontation began.

• Lin Chuan sent Tsunade's Monster Strength Scroll toward the Hokage, then used ghostly blue flames to destroy his body and left his mask and Chakra Blade behind.
• Kakashi found Lin Chuan's ashes and belongings, while Orochimaru returned to the Valley of the End and later went back to his base.

• Lin Chuan chose the mission to eat beef three times and discovered he had been reborn into the Terumi Clan in Kirigakure during the Third Mizukage's rule.
• Lin Chuan met Zabuza Momochi at the Ninja Academy and received a visit from his older sister, Mei Terumi.
