After driving for more than two hours, they stopped in the open-air parking lot of N City People's Hospital.
Shi Wen stared at the words "N City People's Hospital," wondering if Yan Kexing had slipped him some kind of mind-altering potion. Otherwise, how had he been persuaded so easily?
Yan Kexing opened the car door and got out first. "Come on. I'll go see the doctor with you."
Shi Wen had nothing else to say and could only get out and follow him.
Since his parents' divorce, this was the first time someone had accompanied Shi Wen to see a doctor. The feeling was strangely wonderful, and he kept sneaking glances at Yan Kexing from the corner of his eye.
It was a weekday, so there were not too many patients.
Shi Wen's turn came quickly.
Sitting face-to-face with him, the doctor asked some basic questions before asking, "What was your prescription before, roughly? Did you ever get it tested at a hospital?"
Shi Wen said, "No, I always had it checked at an optician's. One hundred fifty in my left eye and three hundred twenty in my right."
The doctor looked up and examined his eyes. After a moment, he said, "That doesn't seem right. It's rare for an adult to have eyes as clear as yours."
Shi Wen said, "Maybe it's because I've been looking at a lot of green plants lately?"
The doctor wrote him an order for some tests.
Yan Kexing accompanied him the entire time, as though Professor Yan was on vacation and had absolutely nothing to do that day.
The test results came out quickly. When Shi Wen sat down across from the doctor again, the doctor gave him an extra look.
Shi Wen sharply caught the expression on the doctor's face and immediately tensed. "Doctor, is there something wrong with my eyes?"
"There's something wrong with mine." The doctor turned the results around for him to see. "Your vision is 5.3 in both eyes. It's good enough to qualify for pilot recruitment!"
Shi Wen said, "No way. I've worn glasses for years."
After instinctively refuting it, he quickly realized the results were probably correct. During the test, he really had been able to see the very bottom line of the eye chart.
So the Qilin Bloodline had altered his body?
Shi Wen turned to look at Yan Kexing, who was standing beside him.
Yan Kexing lowered his eyes to look at the results. The curve of his eyes was beautiful, and his lashes were thick and dense.
Professor Yan had beautiful eyes, and he apparently was not nearsighted either.
Shi Wen thought.
With the test results right there, Shi Wen truly was not nearsighted. His eyes were very healthy, with no other issues.
After explaining everything to him, the doctor sent him out.
Shi Wen took the report and followed Yan Kexing out of the hospital.
Sitting in the car, he repeatedly looked over the test results in his hand, still wearing a stunned expression.
After fiddling with the paper for a while, Shi Wen suddenly looked up at Yan Kexing. "You're not of pure human bloodline, are you?"
Yan Kexing paused before starting the car and turned to look at him.
Their eyes met.
Yan Kexing suddenly smiled, the lines at the corners of his eyes obvious.
Hit by such devastating good looks at close range, Shi Wen nearly lost his composure.
Yan Kexing asked, "Why do you say that?"
Shi Wen listed the evidence one by one. "You weren't surprised at all that I asked, and you've observed me so many times. You've even hinted at things more than once!"
Yan Kexing nodded in admission. "I'm indeed not of human bloodline."
A flood of thoughts ran through Shi Wen's mind, but what came out was, "Then doesn't that make you my senior?"
Yan Kexing smiled again. "I wouldn't mind if you called me Senior Yan."
Shi Wen's face flushed red from the hormones rolling over him. He looked away. "I mind! I treat you like a brother, but you want to take advantage of me?"
Yan Kexing drove out of the parking lot.
After recovering for a while, Shi Wen asked, "What bloodline are you? Can you tell me?"
"My bloodline is classified at a high level, so not for now. But if you keep growing at this rate, you should find out soon enough," Yan Kexing said. "I thought I'd made it pretty obvious. You're only realizing it now?"
Shi Wen recalled his interactions with Yan Kexing. It seemed Yan Kexing really had never concealed anything in front of him.
What had Yan Kexing said when they first met?
He seemed to have said, "I know you."
That meant Yan Kexing had probably known of his existence long ago.
Shi Wen flexed his fingers.
Fortunately, he was just a rancher running a pasture. It did not matter if his brain was not that sharp.
Otherwise, dealing with shrewd people like these, he would get sold off sooner or later.
He turned to look at Yan Kexing, who was driving with sunglasses on.
Yan Kexing looked incredibly handsome with those sunglasses perched on his exceptionally high, straight nose.
With that height and appearance, it really was hard to believe he could have grown up as a pure human.
Yan Kexing took Shi Wen to pick up the two puppies.
The two puppies still remembered Shi Wen. The energetic one stuck its nose through the cage bars and sniffed at him with all its might, whining sweetly without barking.
Perhaps because Yan Kexing was nearby, the puppy did not dare bark.
Shi Wen returned to the ranch carrying bags of all sizes.
After unloading everything, Yan Kexing reminded him, "Remember to test yourself."
Perhaps because they now shared a common background, Shi Wen felt much closer to Yan Kexing and spoke more casually. "Don't worry. I'll test myself in a bit."
"Okay. I'll head back first."
"Drive carefully, then. Call me if anything comes up."
After watching Yan Kexing leave, Shi Wen carried the cage containing the two puppies into the livestock shed.
Black Kid had noticed the two puppies long ago. It had not barked while Yan Kexing was around, but now it could no longer hold back and kept barking at Shi Wen.
Shi Wen held Black Kid in his arms and rubbed its neck. "Don't bark, don't bark. I brought you little brothers and sisters to help out. You'll be the boss from now on, so act like one."
Black Kid was unhappy. It looked at the two puppies, then at Shi Wen, but still kept barking nonstop.
Shi Wen could not soothe it.
The two puppies looked a little afraid of Black Kid. Even the energetic puppy did not dare act up, shrinking cautiously into a corner. Their place in the family was obvious at a glance.
