Ch. 141Mighty Arm Volcano
Plot points and events
- Sakazuki condemns the Whitebeard Pirates and Kozuki Oden as enemies of “Absolute Justice” after the clash at the harbor.
- Oden emerges from the rubble badly burned but still standing, his Haki flaring as anger and fighting spirit overcome his initial shock.
- Rock orders Sakazuki to cripple Oden. Sakazuki attacks, and Oden meets him with both swords.
- Oden launches his two-sword technique, Oni Mimicry, but Sakazuki counters with Mighty Arm Volcano: a rapid barrage of magma-coated punches.
- Oden is overwhelmed. His blades and Armament Haki keep him from being hit cleanly, but Sakazuki’s heat and precise attacks wear him down and send him skidding backward.
- The Whitebeard Pirates cannot reach Oden through the waves of magma and heat. Newgate watches, increasingly troubled, and considers intervening.
Character developments
- Oden reveals formidable resolve and the beginnings of Conqueror’s Haki, but his combat experience is still limited. His courage remains strong even as Sakazuki gains the upper hand.
- Sakazuki demonstrates more than overwhelming Devil Fruit power: his disciplined close-combat skill, Haki, and ability to read sword attacks make him a highly capable fighter.
- Rock remains detached, treating Oden as a target to be disabled rather than showing concern for the wider conflict.
- Newgate grows emotionally conflicted. He wants to protect his crew, but he also admires Oden and wants to bring him to sea.
Significant themes
- Absolute Justice versus individual spirit: Sakazuki frames his violence as necessary justice, while Oden’s resistance is driven by fierce personal will.
- Raw potential versus experience: Oden has great strength and Haki foundations, but Sakazuki’s refined technique and battle experience give him the advantage.
- Loyalty and divided responsibility: Newgate faces a painful choice between protecting his family and helping the man he has come to regard as a brother.
Character interactions
- Sakazuki and Oden engage in a direct, escalating duel, with Sakazuki controlling the pace through relentless attacks.
- Izo, Nekomamushi, and Inuarashi try to rush to Oden’s aid but are repeatedly forced back by the magma.
- Rock’s brief order prompts Sakazuki’s assault, while Newgate silently weighs whether to act.
