Ch. 161Kaido
Key plot points and events
- After God Valley, Kaido sets out alone, determined to become powerful enough to shape the world rather than submit to its rules. He forms his own crew and repeatedly escapes Marine capture, imprisonment, and experimentation, growing stronger each time.
- Kaido becomes fixated on Rock, who once humiliated him at Hachinosu. He spends years trying to find and challenge him but holds back from confronting the strongest pirates before he is ready.
- Kaido builds a crew from dangerous outcasts and monsters. He plans to collect Queen from Whitebeard, but Whitebeard says he still needs Queen, and Kaido reluctantly accepts. He also resents Kozuki Oden for apparently interfering.
- Kaido turns toward Wano, intending to work with Kurozumi Higurashi to transform it into a nation devoted to weapons and warfare.
- On the voyage, Kaido senses Rock nearby, transforms into his Azure Dragon form, and flies off to attack him. He opens with Bolo Breath; Rock counters with a powerful purple-gold lightning technique, the Sky-Splitting Cannon.
- Their attacks clash in a massive explosion. Rock’s lightning beam overpowers and pierces the fire blast, but Kaido meets the beam directly with his body. The chapter ends amid the resulting eruption of lightning, fire, and shattered clouds.
Character developments and interactions
- Kaido is shown as ambitious, increasingly powerful, and still driven by the humiliation Rock inflicted on him. His restraint around Whitebeard shows that he recognizes the limits of his strength, even as his pride and aggression remain central to him.
- Rock appears calm and unafraid under Kaido’s attack, answering Bolo Breath with an immense lightning strike.
- Whitebeard remains a respected former captain whom Kaido is willing to obey, despite his frustration over Queen.
- Kaido and Rock finally meet again in combat, turning Kaido’s long-held grudge into an immediate, high-stakes confrontation.
