"Really?" Jiang Lan sounded a little doubtful. "I think I made him pretty mad just now. The sound of his tail slapping the water when he left was louder than my master scolding me."
Lan Fozi brought her head closer and gently nudged Jiang Lan, her touch so tender it hardly seemed to belong to a Deep Sea Demon Whale.

"But he just said I really deserved to die." Jiang Lan straightened the hood she had nudged askew and wrung some water out of his penguin suit with his stubby hands. "That sounds pretty serious."
Lan Fozi's blue eyes curved, and her tail traced a circle on the sea.
"Woo-woo," Lan Fozi called again.
Roughly translated, it meant, That's what he says when he's angry. But you're different.
"How am I different?"
Lan Fozi did not answer. She merely used her head to nudge Jiang Lan toward her back.
