Huang Yun supported the corpse, gently laid it on the ground, and casually took the Wolf Head Token.
Not a sound louder than breathing had been made throughout the entire process.
He stood by the window and swept his gaze over the street below. Only after confirming that he had not alerted anyone did he close the window and merge back into the night.
Early the next morning, Chen Boss had the attendants harness the carriage. Tie Shan and Liu Ying stood waiting at the inn entrance.
Huang Yun walked out of the room and said, "I've taken my share of the mission reward. This is yours. The mission is complete, and I'm leaving. Take care of yourselves."
Tie Shan caught the cloth bag. It was heavy.
He froze for a moment. "Boss, are you really leaving?"
"Of course. No feast lasts forever."
Huang Yun glanced back at him, then at the hazy wasteland beneath the distant morning light. The corners of his mouth curved faintly beneath his mask.
"Until we meet again."
As his words fell, blue-white wings spread behind him. With a flash of lightning, he shot into the sky and vanished beyond the horizon as a streak of light.
Tie Shan and Liu Ying stood where they were, staring upward for a long time. Only after the light had completely disappeared did they lower their gazes.
Tie Shan weighed the money pouch in his hand and grinned. "This job was worth it."
"Don't celebrate yet. We need to run."
"We can't stay here any longer. If the Sand Wolf Gang can't catch him, they may come after us instead."
"This one job is enough to keep us fed for a long time. We can make a living somewhere else."
Sensing the impending danger, Liu Ying immediately spoke up.
Tie Shan and the others found it reasonable as well. It had been difficult to say anything while Huang Yun was there, but now that he was gone, they truly had to consider their own safety.
Thus, they took the money and left this troublesome place without returning.
As dawn broke, the gray-yellow land of the Nether Wasteland spread beneath his feet like an old blanket with no end in sight.
Huang Yun flew at high speed through the air. The oncoming wind was effortlessly parted by his Minor Accomplishment Indestructible Vajra Body, and he was another thirty percent faster than before.
After leaving Black Wind Valley, he flew north by northwest for roughly an hour. There was no trace of human habitation below, only rolling dunes interspersed with occasional exposed layers of black rock.
After confirming that the surroundings were safe, he slowed and landed atop an elevated rocky hill, taking a parchment map from his storage ring.
He had found it while searching Iron Baldy's corpse.
At the time, the bald Soul Emperor's storage ring had contained more than three hundred thousand Gold Soul Coins and several pieces of ore. This parchment map, however, had been hidden in a concealed pocket against the inside of his clothing.
The moment Huang Yun discovered it, he knew it was no ordinary item. Things kept close to one's body were usually no less valuable than those stored in a storage ring.
He crouched atop the rocky hill, spread out the parchment, and pinned down its corners with two stones.
The map was already quite old. Its edges were worn and frayed, with several spots bearing water stains, but the ink lines remained clearly visible.
It depicted the terrain of the Nether Wasteland, marking several major towns and landmarks. Both Blackstone City and Black Wind Valley were prominently shown.
Huang Yun's gaze settled on an inconspicuous spot in the lower-right corner of the map.
There was a small circle drawn there, with several words written beside it in extremely fine ink. The handwriting was messy, but it was obvious that it had been deliberately written small: "Dragon Bone Pit."
Dragon Bone Pit.
Huang Yun frowned and pondered it for a while. He had never come across this name in any of the travel journals he had read.
Most place names in the Nether Wasteland were straightforward and rugged, such as Sand Wolf Valley, Blackstone City, and Dry Bone Ridge, all named after geographical features. But Dragon Bone Pit was clearly different.
Dragon.
The dragons of the Douluo Continent were no ordinary dragons.
The most famous were naturally the people of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, renowned for their dragon-type Martial Souls.
But true dragons were a species of Soul Beasts that had existed in ancient times. Dragon Clan Soul Beasts were terrifyingly powerful; even the weakest began at the ten-thousand-year level. Records from ancient times even mentioned hundred-thousand-year and million-year Dragon Clan Soul Beasts.
Dragon Clan Soul Beasts were now extremely rare across the continent. The Martial Soul inheritance of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan was a continuation of Dragon Clan bloodlines.
Anything involving dragons was never simple.
A treasure map had marked a place called Dragon Bone Pit.
That meant there was a strong possibility that the remains of an ancient Dragon Clan Soul Beast lay there.
Even if it was only a Dragon Bone, it would still be a priceless treasure.
Dragon Clan bones were core materials for crafting top-grade Soul Tools. Dragon Crystals were premium ores containing pure energy. And if there were remnants of a dragon soul or Dragon Clan Soul Bones...
Huang Yun licked his lips.
He could not let someone else get their hands on this.
He carefully examined the marked location on the map.
Dragon Bone Pit lay deep within the Nether Wasteland, roughly three to four hundred li from his current position. It was near the border between the wasteland's edge and a region called the Withered Silence Mountains. The location was extremely remote, with no towns or roads marked nearby.
No wonder the Sand Wolf Gang had not acted despite obtaining this map.
The place was too far away, and there were many high-level Soul Beasts deep in the wasteland. Venturing in recklessly carried great risks.
Iron Baldy had likely intended to go after breaking through another level or gathering enough men. Yet before he could set out, he had died at Huang Yun's hands.
Huang Yun put away the parchment and rose to look toward the northwest, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.
When the snipe and clam fought, the fisherman profited.
He had lost nothing, yet gained a treasure map for free.
"Let's go."
His wings spread, lightning wrapped around his body, and he shot into the sky once more, flying at top speed toward Dragon Bone Pit.
The deeper he flew into the wasteland, the more desolate the environment became.
The vegetation below had almost completely vanished, replaced by vast expanses of exposed gray-black rock and gravel.
The wind was drier, carrying an indescribable fishy stench, like an odor rising from deep underground.
From time to time, he could see several massive Soul Beasts wandering across the distant ground. They were enormous and possessed steady auras, all at the ten-thousand-year level or above.
Huang Yun deliberately raised his flight altitude and skirted around the areas where those Soul Beasts roamed.
He did not want unnecessary complications.
After flying for roughly another two hours, a range of undulating black mountains began to emerge on the distant horizon.
The mountains were bare and devoid of vegetation. Their rock faces were covered in gullies and cracks of varying depths, as though they had been repeatedly scoured by something.
The Withered Silence Mountains.
According to the map, Dragon Bone Pit was in a sunken area on the outskirts of this mountain range.
Huang Yun descended, flying slowly along the outer edge of the mountains. At the same time, he activated Lightning Falcon Eyes and spread his Mental Power to its fullest, carefully scanning every inch of the ground below.
He searched for roughly the time it took an incense stick to burn.
Then he saw it.
At the base of a relatively gentle slope, the ground had collapsed into a large depression. It was irregular in shape and roughly twenty to thirty zhang across.
Along the edges of the depression, layered cross-sections of rock could be seen. Something white was faintly exposed within them, hard in texture and yellowish in color, standing in stark contrast to the surrounding gray-black stone.
