Background
Tang San awakened Blue Silver Grass in Holy Soul Village. Although Su Yuntao initially dismissed the martial soul, Tang San demanded an innate-Soul-Power test and was revealed to possess Innate Full Soul Power. Su Yuntao's praise of Su Chen's superior martial soul, coupled with his implication that Blue Silver Grass was unworthy of such talent, immediately provoked Tang San's resentment. 1
He wished to attend Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy both to advance as a Soul Master and to discover why his Mysterious Heaven Skill had stalled at its first level. Tang Hao initially refused, ordering Tang San to remain home and cook, but later allowed him to enroll. Old Jack secured a second work-study position so both Tang San and Su Chen could attend. 2
When Su Chen tried to surrender his own work-study place to spare Old Jack the journey, Tang San interpreted the gesture as calculated competition for favor rather than generosity. This suspicion became the foundation of his hostility toward Su Chen. 3
At Nuoding Academy, Yu Xiaogang deduced that Tang San possessed a second martial soul after seeing Blue Silver Grass paired with Innate Full Soul Power. Tang San immediately accepted him as his master after Yu Xiaogang promised to guide his Twin Martial Souls. 5
Tang San later learned that his mother, Ah Yin, had been a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor in human form. His seemingly ordinary Blue Silver Grass was an unawakened inheritance from her; the Blue Silver King subsequently awakened it in the Blue Silver Forest. 62 63
Personality
Tang San is ambitious, proud, and intensely determined to prove that Blue Silver Grass is not inferior. He initially suppresses his wish to attend the academy out of filial obedience to Tang Hao, but privately seeks the power and knowledge to overturn the contempt shown toward him. 2
His rivalry with Su Chen is shaped by suspicion and jealousy. Tang San treats Su Chen's attempt to help Old Jack as a struggle for favor, resents the attention Su Chen receives from Old Jack and Spirit Hall, and becomes increasingly distressed by Xiao Wu's voluntary affection for Su Chen. 3 9 14
In battle, Tang San relies on preparation, Tang Sect techniques, and hidden weapons. When defeated openly, he is willing to escalate with concealed attacks, including Silent Sleeve Arrows and later a barrage of Tang Sect projectiles. 15 41
Awakening the Blue Silver Emperor and gaining a more attractive appearance restore much of Tang San's confidence, but do not diminish his fixation on Xiao Wu or his desire to defeat Su Chen. He attributes his father's injuries, Yu Xiaogang's disappearance, and later family losses to Su Chen. After Tang Hao and Tang Xiao die, grief and rejection by the Clear Sky Sect leave him isolated. 63 65 67 82 92 104
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Tang San's primary awakened martial soul is Blue Silver Grass. Its plant nature is strengthened with beast-derived Soul Rings, but it is repeatedly countered by Su Chen's Golden Crow True Flame. The Blue Silver King later awakens its true form, the Blue Silver Emperor, through Tang San's inherited bloodline. 14 41 63
- Blue Silver Entanglement — First Soul Skill, obtained from a roughly 400-year Datura Snake Soul Ring; produces strengthened Blue Silver Grass bindings. 11 14
- Poisonous Thorn Strangulation — Second Soul Skill, obtained from a 500-year Ghost Spider Soul Ring; produces poisonous, barbed vines. 41
- Third Soul Ring — Obtained from a 1,700-year Datura Snake before the Blue Silver Emperor's awakening. 63
- Spider Web Restraint — Fourth Soul Skill; releases a purple web to bind an opponent. Su Chen burns the web away during their tournament match. 69
- Blue Silver Domain — Acquired when the Blue Silver King awakens Tang San's bloodline. Tang San uses the surrounding vegetation to conceal his presence and escape pursuit after Tang Hao's death. 63 80 82
- Limitation: Both of his first two skills are burned to ash when they contact Golden Crow True Flame. His later Spider Web Restraint meets the same fate. Despite awakening the Blue Silver Emperor, he has no recovery Soul Skill when wounded in Suotuo City. 14 41 69 104
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang San's hidden second martial soul is the Clear Sky Hammer.
- Yu Xiaogang identifies its existence from Tang San's Innate Full Soul Power and Blue Silver Grass awakening. 5
- Tang San summons it directly during his later battle with Su Chen, but its hardness does not prevent the backlash that shatters his right arm. 41
- Disorder Splitting Wind Meteor Hammer — Tang San wraps Blue Silver Emperor vines around the hammer and uses both martial souls simultaneously to strike from a distance and build momentum. He calls it a self-created Martial Soul Fusion Skill, though Su Chen judges it to be a creative simultaneous use of his Twin Martial Souls rather than a true fusion skill. 69
Tang Sect Arts
Tang San retains several techniques from the Tang Sect.
- Mysterious Heaven Skill — His original cultivation method; its inability to break through its first level motivates his desire to attend the academy. 2
- Mysterious Jade Hand — Used to reinforce his hands in direct exchanges. 14 41
- Purple Demon Eyes — A visual technique that still fails to follow Su Chen's speed. 14 41
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Evasive footwork used to avoid close-range attacks. 14 41
- Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — A redirection technique used to deflect incoming force. 14 41
- Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer — Hammer technique incorporated into his Blue Silver Emperor–Clear Sky Hammer combination. 69
- Limitation: These techniques cannot bridge the physical and speed disparity between Tang San and Su Chen. 14 41
Hidden Weapons
Tang San carries and employs concealed Tang Sect weapons.
- Silent Sleeve Arrows — Fired at Su Chen after Tang San loses their first confrontation. 15
- Bone-Piercing Nails, Locust Stones, Willow Leaf Darts, Dragon Beard Needles, and fine golden needles — Used together in an attempted ranged barrage. 41
- Twenty-Four Bridges Bright Moon Night — Storage tool from which he prepares to draw weapons during his confrontation with Su Chen. He later draws hidden weapons from it while trapped by Bu Le. 40 104
- Godly Zhuge Crossbow — Tang San considers firing it at Su Chen during the Soul Master Tournament but does not, because weapons are forbidden there. 69
- Limitation: Su Chen's crimson-gold flame barrier melts Tang San's projectiles before they can strike. His hidden weapons also fail to break Bu Le's Heavenly Gauze Twin Covers. 41 104
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twenty-Four Bridges Bright Moon Night — Waist-worn storage soul tool; stolen by Bu Le, E Kao, and Tianya after they overpower Tang San. 40 104
- Clear Sky Hammer — Hidden second martial soul used as a direct weapon. 41 69
- Tang Sect hidden weapons — Includes Silent Sleeve Arrows, Bone-Piercing Nails, Locust Stones, Willow Leaf Darts, and Dragon Beard Needles. 15 41
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father and the Clear Sky Douluo. Initially forbids Tang San from attending Nuoding Academy, later permits it; secretly observes Tang San's conflicts and treats Su Chen as a whetstone for his son's growth. After Su Chen nearly defeats him, Tang Hao takes Tang San to awaken his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline, but then mistakes his transformed son for Ah Yin and sexually assaults him. Tang San continues to excuse his father and seeks revenge after Tang Hao dies fighting Su Chen and Qian Renxue's group. 2 15 25 62 63 79
- Ah Yin — Mother. Formerly a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor in human form; Tang San inherits her bloodline and, after its awakening, comes to resemble her closely. 63 65
- Yu Xiaogang — Master. Yu Xiaogang identifies Tang San's Twin Martial Souls and recruits him by promising the guidance needed to realize his potential. He later concentrates Shrek Academy's resources on Tang San. Tang San believes Yu Xiaogang disappeared or died because of Su Chen, unaware that Qian Renxue imprisoned him and Bibi Dong subsequently rescued him. 5 57 63 65 92
- Su Chen — Fellow Holy Soul Village child and principal rival. Tang San resents Su Chen's talent, popularity, resources, and relationships, repeatedly challenging him and suffering decisive defeats. He later blames Su Chen for Tang Hao's and Tang Xiao's deaths and hopes to kill him. 3 14 15 41 69 82 83 92
- Xiao Wu — Former Nuoding Academy dormmate and Tang San's unrequited love. Tang San's jealousy of her affection for Su Chen drives much of his hostility toward his rival. Even after she repeatedly rejects and attacks him, he believes that improving his appearance and defeating Su Chen may win her affection. 9 40 65 66 67
- Old Jack — Holy Soul Village chief who arranges Tang San's academy admission and treats him as one of the village's promising children. 2 3
- Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun — Shrek Academy companions who incite Tang San to confront Su Chen, then later argue with him over responsibility for the resulting disaster. They become markedly more affectionate toward Tang San after his Blue Silver Emperor awakening changes his appearance. Tang San later believes both are dead. 40 50 65 104
- Qian Renxue — Political enemy by association. After identifying Tang San as Tang Hao's son, she orders Spirit Hall to secretly surveil him as a means of locating Tang Hao. She later pursues Tang San after Tang Hao's death, but he escapes using his Blue Silver Domain. 25 79 80
- Tang Xiao — Paternal uncle and former Clear Sky Sect master. He defies the sect's elders to admit Tang San, promises to train him, and attempts to assassinate Su Chen after Tang San urges him to avenge Tang Hao. Tang Xiao's death causes the sect to blame and reject Tang San. 82 83 87 92
- Tai Tan — Strength Clan patriarch loyal to Tang Hao's family. He brings Tang San to meet his father and helps him escape when their pursuers attack. Tang San believes Tai Tan died protecting him. 78 79 82
Story Role / Major Arcs
Holy Soul Village and Nuoding Academy
Tang San's Innate Full Soul Power establishes him as an exceptional talent, but the perceived weakness of Blue Silver Grass leaves him repeatedly humiliated. His anger toward Su Chen begins when Su Chen receives greater public praise and support. 1 2
At Nuoding Academy, he becomes Yu Xiaogang's disciple, obtains a Datura Snake Soul Ring, and develops Blue Silver Entanglement. His conflict with Su Chen escalates after he leads work-study students against Xiao Chenyu's group and is confronted by Su Chen. 5 11 14
Rivalry with Su Chen
Tang San attacks Su Chen with Blue Silver Grass, Tang Sect movement techniques, and Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon, but is overpowered by Golden Crow True Flame, superior speed, and Golden Crow Radiant Sun. After his defeat, he attempts a surprise attack with Silent Sleeve Arrows and is beaten again. 14 15
Tang Hao and Yu Xiaogang both frame Su Chen as a necessary rival: Tang Hao views him as a whetstone, while Yu Xiaogang insists that stronger Soul Rings will eventually allow Tang San's Blue Silver Grass to defeat him. 15 16
Shrek Academy Conflict
After reuniting with Xiao Wu in Soul Hunting Town, Tang San demands that she return to him and accuses Su Chen of abandoning and exploiting her. Xiao Wu rejects him directly and warns that continued interference will end their friendship. 39 40
Tang San then attacks Su Chen alongside Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun. His Blue Silver Grass, hidden weapons, and Clear Sky Hammer all fail; Su Chen defeats the three attackers with little difficulty and shatters Tang San's right arm during the Clear Sky Hammer exchange. 41
Following the battle, Tang San returns to Shrek Academy humiliated and increasingly fearful that Su Chen's superior cultivation, rare Soul Ring configuration, and access to powerful mentors will leave him permanently behind. Yu Xiaogang subsequently diverts academy resources toward Tang San's training. 50 57
Blue Silver Emperor Awakening and Soul Master Tournament
After Su Chen defeats and severely injures Tang Hao, Tang Hao takes Tang San to the Blue Silver Forest and reveals his maternal inheritance. The Blue Silver King awakens Tang San's Blue Silver Emperor and Blue Silver Domain. His changed appearance leads Tang Hao to mistake him for Ah Yin and assault him, leaving Tang San traumatized; Tang San nevertheless redirects his anger toward Spirit Hall and Su Chen. 59 62 63
Tang San returns to Shrek Academy confident in his new appearance and abilities. Before the Soul Master Tournament, Xiao Wu rejects him again. In the opening match against Su Chen's Heaven Dou Royal Academy team, Tang San uses Spider Web Restraint and his combined Blue Silver Emperor–Clear Sky Hammer technique, but Su Chen overcomes both. 65 66 67 69
Clear Sky Sect and Isolation
After a later defeat by Canghui Academy, Tai Tan takes Tang San to meet Tang Hao, who intends to bring him into the Clear Sky Sect and teach him its techniques. Qian Renxue and Su Chen's group intercept them; Tang Hao dies, while Tang San escapes pursuit through the Blue Silver Domain. 78 79 80
Tang San reaches the Clear Sky Sect, where the elders initially reject him because of their grievances against his parents. Tang Xiao secures his admission over their objections. Tang San then persuades his uncle to target Su Chen, but Tang Xiao dies following his attack on the tournament procession. Blamed by the sect and deprived of the uncle who had promised to train him, Tang San slips away and considers founding his own Tang Sect. 82 83 87 92 100
Tang San later returns to Suotuo City grieving and without a destination. Bu Le, E Kao, and Tianya attack him together. Despite using the Blue Silver Emperor, Tang Sect techniques, and hidden weapons, he is wounded, trapped, and rendered unconscious; the three steal his storage tool and take him captive. 104
