First Appearance Chapter 2

Background / History

Tang Hao lived in Holy Soul Village under the identity of an impoverished blacksmith. Seven years before Spirit Hall’s investigation, he arrived carrying the infant Tang San. He appeared drunken, neglected his home, and initially refused to let Tang San attend Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy, dismissing Blue Silver Grass as worthless and insisting that Tang San stay home to cook. He later allowed Tang San to enroll, apparently after recognizing the boy’s hidden potential 2.

Spirit Hall identifies him as the former Clear Sky Douluo and a wanted criminal believed to have killed former Pope Qian Xunji. According to She Long, Qian Xunji had pursued Tang Hao’s transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year soul beast wife, Ah Yin; Tang Hao severely wounded him, and Qian Xunji later died of those injuries 25 38.

Tang Hao secretly watched Tang San during his early years at Nuoding Academy. He allowed Su Chen to remain alive after Su Chen defeated Tang San, judging Su Chen to be a useful “whetstone” who could pressure his son to grow stronger. He later entrusted Tang San’s training to Yu Xiaogang and left the academy 15 16.

During this surveillance, Tang Hao initially assumed Xiao Wu would eventually become Tang San’s soul beast partner, comparing his son’s prospective romance to his own relationship with Ah Yin. Although Tang San’s hidden weapons made him suspect that the boy possessed unexplained secrets, he accepted the Clear Sky Hammer as conclusive proof of their blood relationship 9 15.

After Qian Renxue’s group removed the weakened Blue Silver Emperor—connected to Ah Yin—from Tang Hao’s hidden waterfall cave, along with the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone, Tang Hao attacked Spirit Hall in rage and damaged Pope Hall before escaping 38.

Years later, Yu Xiaogang persuaded Tang Hao that Su Chen had bullied Tang San and taken Xiao Wu away. Tang Hao sought out Su Chen outside Heaven Dou Royal Academy, intending to take Xiao Wu and kill anyone who resisted. His attack ended with Su Chen seriously injuring him and forcing him to retreat after their battle escalated into a clash of domains and ultimate techniques 57 58 59.

While badly weakened, Tang Hao took Tang San to the Blue Silver Forest to awaken the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline. He harshly compared Tang San to Su Chen and demanded that he unlock his inherited power. After Tang San’s transformation caused him to resemble Ah Yin, Tang Hao’s grief-driven instability culminated in his sexual assault of Tang San, leaving his son traumatized 62 63.

Tang Hao subsequently remained absent from Shrek Academy while Tang San spent two years away. On returning, Tang San confirmed that Tang Hao had taken only him, not Yu Xiaogang, whose disappearance had mistakenly been attributed to their departure. Tang San also adopted mannerisms resembling Ah Yin because they elicited gentler treatment from his father 65.

After Tang San’s tournament defeats, Tang Hao sent Tai Tan to retrieve him and planned to bring him back to the Clear Sky Sect to acknowledge his ancestry and learn the Clear Sky Nine Absolutes. Tang Hao admitted that he owed the sect too much and expected Tang San to repay that debt on his behalf. Before they could depart, Su Chen, Qian Renxue, She Long, and Ci Xue tracked them to a forest 78.

Recognizing that his injuries left him unlikely to survive the confrontation, Tang Hao ordered Tai Tan to take Tang San to the Clear Sky Sect while he held off their pursuers. He detonated eight Soul Rings to recover his peak combat strength temporarily, but Su Chen and the two Titled Douluo severely weakened him. Su Chen and Qian Renxue then fused into a Six-Winged Seraphim and attacked with the Solar Domain and Angel Fire Dragon Formation. Tang Hao detonated his remaining red Soul Ring, dying in the resulting explosion. Six Soul Bones remained in the crater 79 80.

Tang San escaped and eventually reached the Clear Sky Sect, where Tang Hao and Ah Yin’s legacy made the elders hostile toward him. Tang Xiao nevertheless secured his nephew’s admission. After learning of Tang Hao’s death, Tang Xiao agreed to assassinate Su Chen, continuing the conflict that Tang Hao’s final stand had left unresolved 82 83.

Appearance

Tang Hao is first depicted as a disheveled, alcohol-scented village blacksmith. When concealing his identity, he wears a black robe and hood.

  • Sallow complexion and tangled hair 2
  • Thin, hole-ridden clothing during his time in Holy Soul Village 2
  • Unkempt beard and a weathered, disheveled appearance beneath his hood 16
  • After the Spirit Hall incident, he has swollen eye sockets, a waxen complexion, and repeatedly coughs blood from severe injuries 57 62
  • During his final use of Ring Detonation, his face turns crimson, he vomits blood and fragments of internal organs, and his muscles and bones strain under the released power 79
  • His body is destroyed in the final explosion, leaving his six Soul Bones behind 79 80

Personality

Tang Hao is intensely possessive of the people and memories tied to his past. Ah Yin is his greatest emotional vulnerability; the theft of the Blue Silver Emperor and her right leg bone drives him to attack Spirit Hall alone despite the danger 38.

His concern for Tang San is bound to revenge and inheritance. He treats Tang San as the weapon through which he will oppose Spirit Hall, uses Su Chen as pressure to sharpen him, and responds to Tang San’s comparative weakness with contempt and threats rather than support 15 16 57 62.

He is also calculating when political consequences matter. Before attacking Su Chen’s group, he hesitates because killing heirs of several major factions could endanger the Clear Sky Sect. However, Su Chen’s humiliation and injury of him override that caution and turn the confrontation into a personal vendetta 57 58.

His fixation on Ah Yin distorts his treatment of Tang San after the Blue Silver Emperor awakening. Tang San’s resemblance to his mother provokes repeated abuse and later softens Tang Hao’s anger over his son’s failures. Tang Hao also expects that this resemblance will help Tang San gain acceptance from Tang Xiao 63 65 78.

Despite his domineering and abusive behavior, Tang Hao’s final priority is preserving Tang San’s life. Facing an apparently fatal encirclement, he stays behind to delay the attackers and pushes his damaged body beyond its limits rather than surrender. He also expresses regret that he did not kill Su Chen earlier, viewing that decision as the source of his present defeat 79.

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang Hao possesses the Clear Sky Hammer, the Martial Soul that confirms Tang San’s paternal bloodline and underpins his standing as the Clear Sky Douluo 15 25.

  • Wields nine Soul Rings: two yellow, two purple, four black, and one red 58
  • Can manifest a dark-golden Clear Sky Hammer in combat 58
  • His physical strength and hammer techniques remain formidable even while suffering from old and recent injuries 59
  • In his final battle, knocks Qian Renxue away and sends both She Long and Ci Xue flying with separate hammer blows, demonstrating his strength advantage over them even in his injured condition 79

Clear Sky True Body

Tang Hao’s seventh soul skill enlarges his Clear Sky Hammer into a colossal weapon.

  • Expands the hammer to roughly seventy meters 59
  • Creates a powerful pull that drags opponents toward the hammerhead 59
  • Was broken through by Su Chen’s solar-enhanced counterattack, worsening Tang Hao’s internal injuries 59

Heaven-Reaching Strike

Tang Hao’s ninth soul skill is a killing attack of overwhelming destructive force.

  • Used against Su Chen after Clear Sky True Body failed to end the battle 59
  • Its power was decomposed by Su Chen’s Sun and Moon in Radiance, Yin-Yang Great Millstone 59

Great Sumeru Hammer

A forceful hammer technique used as Tang Hao’s last resort against the Yin-Yang Great Millstone.

  • Cracked the millstone and enabled his escape 59
  • Caused severe backlash due to his existing internal injuries, leaving him vomiting blood and visceral fragments 59
  • Includes Ring Detonation, which he later uses during his final battle 79

Ring Detonation and Slaughter Assault

Ring Detonation releases the power of Tang Hao’s Soul Rings for a temporary increase in combat strength.

  • Detonates eight Soul Rings in succession during his last confrontation with Su Chen 79
  • Combines the released power with Slaughter Assault, displaying the strength of his peak state 79
  • Places extreme demands on his body; his old injuries make the technique unsustainable and leave him with no realistic chance of surviving the exertion 79 80
  • Detonates his remaining red Soul Ring as a final act of defiance, producing the explosion that kills him and disperses the incoming fire dragons 79

Divine Slaughter’s Domain

Tang Hao possesses the Divine Slaughter’s Domain.

  • Creates an illusion of corpses and blood to overwhelm an opponent’s mind 58
  • Was resisted by Su Chen’s mental strength and perception, then dispelled by the Golden Crow Domain 58
  • Makes him exceptionally sensitive to killing intent, allowing him to detect the hidden group approaching his forest meeting with Tang San and Tai Tan 78

Soul Bone-Enhanced Body

Tang Hao possesses a full set of Soul Bones, giving him an exceptionally durable body.

  • His body is described as tough as steel and iron 58
  • His protection did not prevent Su Chen’s targeted low blow, which permanently mutilated him 58
  • Six Soul Bones survive the destruction of his body 80
  • His left-leg and right-arm Soul Bones are inherited treasures of the Clear Sky Sect and the most valuable of the six; Su Chen takes both after the battle 80
  • The remaining four are left with Qian Renxue, whom Su Chen advises to use them as rewards to strengthen her support among Spirit Hall elders 80

Relationships

  • Tang San — Son. Tang Hao initially keeps him in Holy Soul Village, later uses him as his prospective weapon against Spirit Hall and forces him to awaken the Blue Silver Emperor 2 16 57 62. After the awakening, Tang Hao sexually assaults him and increasingly responds to his resemblance to Ah Yin. He later plans to restore Tang San’s clan status and sacrifices his life to secure his escape 63 65 78 79.
  • Ah Yin — Deceased wife, a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor. Her remaining Blue Silver Emperor form and right leg bone are Tang Hao’s greatest emotional weakness 38.
  • Su Chen — Enemy and former “whetstone” for Tang San. Tang Hao later attempts to kill him, but is injured and driven away by him 15 57 58 59. Su Chen subsequently participates in the battle that ends in Tang Hao’s death and takes two of his Soul Bones 79 80.
  • Qian Renxue — Enemy. She seeks vengeance because Tang Hao is believed to have caused Qian Xunji’s death and uses Ah Yin’s Blue Silver Emperor to lure him out 25 37 38. She reveals herself as Qian Xunji’s daughter during their final confrontation and fuses with Su Chen to attack Tang Hao, achieving her long-sought revenge 79 80.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Tang San’s teacher. Tang Hao entrusts Tang San to him; Yu Xiaogang later incites Tang Hao against Su Chen 16 57. Tang Hao does not take him along when leaving with Tang San, and Qian Renxue’s faction captures Yu Xiaogang after failing to catch the father and son 61 65.
  • Xiao Wu — Target of Tang Hao’s attempted abduction. He views her as a future Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring and Soul Bone for Tang San 15 57.
  • Clear Sky Sect — Tang Hao’s sect. He considers the political consequences that his actions could bring upon it 58. His relationship with the sect is strained, and he expects Tang San to atone for his debts. Its elders continue to blame him and Ah Yin for the persecution and deaths of sect members 78 82.
  • Tang Xiao — Elder brother and Clear Sky Sect master. Tang Hao expects him to accept Tang San into the clan. After Tang Hao’s death, Tang Xiao protects his nephew and undertakes an assassination attempt against Su Chen in revenge 78 82 83 87.
  • Tai Tan — Loyal follower and Strength Clan leader. He remains devoted to Tang Hao despite the Clear Sky Sect’s abandonment of the Strength Clan. Tang Hao entrusts Tang San’s escape to him, and Tai Tan remains behind to delay the pursuers 78 79 80.
  • She Long and Ci Xue — Spirit Hall enemies who help track him and participate in his final battle. Tang Hao initially overpowers them individually, but their combined attack with Su Chen repels him after his eight-ring detonation 78 79.
  • Dugu Bo — Enemy through Tang Hao’s attack on Dugu Yan and Su Chen. Dugu Bo joins Heaven Dou Royal Academy as a protective presence after the ambush and later offers to accompany Su Chen in pursuing Tang Hao, though Su Chen asks him to remain with the girls 64 78.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Holy Soul Village and Nuoding Academy

Tang Hao first appears as Tang San’s negligent father, blocking his academy admission before reversing his decision. He subsequently monitors Tang San from the shadows and allows Su Chen to serve as a rival who will motivate his son 2 15.

His early surveillance also establishes his assumptions about Xiao Wu: he imagines her eventually choosing Tang San, but regards her Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring and Soul Bone as resources reserved for his son 9 15.

Exposure and the Blue Silver Emperor Theft

Spirit Hall’s investigation identifies Tang Hao as the Clear Sky Douluo. Qian Renxue and Su Chen locate his hidden cave, take the Blue Silver Emperor and Ah Yin’s right leg bone, and leave a challenge directing him to Spirit Hall. Tang Hao retaliates by attacking Pope Hall 25 37 38.

Attempted Abduction of Xiao Wu

After Yu Xiaogang manipulates him, Tang Hao ambushes Su Chen’s group to seize Xiao Wu. His hesitation over the girls’ powerful backgrounds gives Su Chen an opening to attack first 57 58.

Battle with Su Chen

Tang Hao withstands Su Chen’s opening assault, activates the Divine Slaughter’s Domain and later his strongest hammer techniques, but is unable to overpower Su Chen. The Yin-Yang Great Millstone erodes his power and forces him to escape at great physical cost 58 59.

The ambush has lasting consequences for Su Chen’s allies. Dugu Bo becomes a protective presence at Heaven Dou Royal Academy, and Su Chen spends nearly two years cultivating there rather than traveling, fearing that Tang Hao might attack again 64.

Blue Silver Forest

With his strength reduced to less than a tenth of its former level, Tang Hao takes Tang San to awaken the Blue Silver Emperor. His grief for Ah Yin and obsession with surpassing Su Chen further damage his relationship with his son 62 63.

Tang Hao’s abuse after the awakening contributes to Tang San’s trauma and increasingly distorted outlook. Rather than blame his father, Tang San redirects his anger toward Spirit Hall and Su Chen and vows to avenge the family 63.

Planned Return to the Clear Sky Sect

Disappointed by Tang San’s tournament performance, Tang Hao arranges for Tai Tan to remove him from Shrek Academy. He plans to bring Tang San to the Clear Sky Sect, restore his ancestral standing, and have him learn the Clear Sky Nine Absolutes. At their forest meeting, Tang Hao criticizes his son’s failures but softens when reminded of Ah Yin. His detection of nearby killing intent interrupts their departure 78.

Final Battle and Death

Qian Renxue confronts Tang Hao over Qian Xunji’s death, accompanied by Su Chen, She Long, and Ci Xue. Tang Hao sends Tai Tan away with Tang San and remains to block pursuit. Despite his injuries, he repels the two Titled Douluo before resorting to the Great Sumeru Hammer’s Ring Detonation 79.

Detonating eight rings temporarily restores his peak power, but Su Chen, She Long, and Ci Xue meet his assault together and severely weaken him. Su Chen and Qian Renxue then fuse into a Six-Winged Seraphim and unleash the Solar Domain and Angel Fire Dragon Formation. Tang Hao detonates his final red Soul Ring and dies in the explosion 79.

Six Soul Bones are recovered from the crater. Su Chen selects the Clear Sky Sect’s inherited left-leg and right-arm bones, while Qian Renxue retains the other four. Tang San escapes pursuit by concealing himself with the Blue Silver Domain 80.

Posthumous Legacy

Tang Hao’s death does not end the feud. Tang San returns to the Clear Sky Sect seeking support for revenge, but encounters the elders’ resentment toward his parents. Tang Xiao forces the sect to accept him, then agrees to secretly kill Su Chen after hearing of his brother’s death 82 83.

Tang Xiao’s subsequent attack on the tournament procession exposes the Clear Sky Sect to public condemnation and ends in his own death. The sect then blames Tang San for drawing Tang Xiao into the conflict, further poisoning the legacy left by Tang Hao’s struggles with Spirit Hall and Su Chen 87 92.

Even after these losses, Tang Hao’s history continues to shape Tang San’s choices. When Tang San later seeks Yu Xiaogang’s protection and Spirit Hall’s support, he avoids approaching the organization directly because of his father’s past attack on it 114.

Trivia

  • Tang Hao’s humiliation by Su Chen earns him the nickname “Eunuch Tang” 58.
  • He initially sees Su Chen as useful to Tang San’s development, only deciding Su Chen must die once the gap between the two boys becomes too great 15 57.
  • Despite considering Tang San essential to his revenge, Tang Hao’s treatment of him is repeatedly shaped by comparison, pressure, and Ah Yin-related grief 57 62 63.
  • Tang Hao’s Clear Sky Hammer has no innate domain; his Divine Slaughter’s Domain is distinct from the Martial Soul’s inherent abilities 58.
  • His final battle destroys all nine of his Soul Rings through successive detonations, while his six Soul Bones remain recoverable 79 80.
  • His intention to have Tang San learn the Clear Sky Nine Absolutes is interrupted by his death; Tang Xiao later promises the same instruction but dies before fulfilling it 78 83 92.
