He applies escalating Soul Power pressure up to level 50, intending to determine whether Gu Feng has the strength and character to join the sect and remain close to Rongrong. 14

The test instead reveals Gu Feng's extraordinary physique and Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone. Gu Rong immediately changes from skeptical examiner to impressed supporter. 14 15

Supporting Gu Feng's Place in the Sect

Gu Rong joins Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin in deciding that Gu Feng should receive the sect's best protection and resources without having his unconventional wind-element cultivation path constrained. 15

Gu Feng's desire to care for Old Jack further earns Gu Rong's respect. He considers Gu Feng strong-willed, grateful, loyal, and worthy of trust. 17

Receiving an Immortal Herb

Gu Feng gives Gu Rong the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum, selecting it specifically for his defensive Bone Dragon path. The herb doubles Gu Rong's physical strength and pushes him from level 95 to level 96. 34 36

Gu Rong enthusiastically accepts Gu Feng's declaration that they are all family. He also witnesses Ning Rongrong's Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda evolution and accompanies the group to obtain her third Soul Ring and Gu Feng's fourth. 36

Supporting New Techniques and the Soul Bone Search

After Gu Feng obtains his fourth Soul Ring, Gu Rong asks about the new ability, prompting Gu Feng to explain Gale Domain. He later joins Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin in investigating the destruction caused by Gu Feng's unstable Rasenshuriken experiment. 37 38

The elders identify insufficient spiritual power and precision as obstacles to Gu Feng's development. Gu Rong participates in their decision to seek a spiritual-type head Soul Bone of at least fifty thousand years, rather than compromise with an inferior bone. During their discussion of acquisition methods, he favors forceful measures while Chen Xin insists on restraint. 38

Discovering Xiao Wu and Extorting Tang Hao

Following the Imperial Fighting Team's victory over Shrek, Gu Rong detects Xiao Wu's hundred-thousand-year soul-beast aura and secretly follows the departing Shrek group. Excited by the prospect of obtaining a guaranteed hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring and Soul Bone, he prepares to act, but Tang Hao intercepts him. Gu Rong refuses Tang Hao's demand that he leave Suotuo City and raises the possibility of exposing Xiao Wu's identity. 62

Gu Rong offers Tang Hao two alternatives: provide one Soul Bone of at least eighty thousand years, or two high-quality Soul Bones of at least fifty thousand years each. Tang Hao accepts the second option. Gu Rong rejects a one-year delay and requires delivery before the Continental Soul Master Tournament, threatening to expose both Xiao Wu and Tang San if the agreement is not fulfilled. 63

After ensuring that Gu Feng and Ning Rongrong arrive safely in Heaven Dou City, Gu Rong returns to the sect. He later boasts to the younger pair that they will be able to choose from the promised Soul Bones, only for Rongrong to compare his extortion to banditry. 65 66

Gu Rong eventually collects Tang Hao's payment and returns with a sixty-thousand-year Crimson Flame Mad Lion Left Arm Bone and a fifty-five-thousand-year Sea-Covering Mystic Turtle Right Leg Bone. Neither is suitable for Gu Feng because of their attributes and occupied bone slots, so Ning Fengzhi proposes exchanging them with the Heaven Dou royal family. 76 77

The royal exchange subsequently provides Gu Feng with a forty-thousand-year Storm Demon Eagle Left Leg Bone and a fifty-thousand-year Illusion Demon Fox Skull. Gu Rong joins the other elders in inspecting them and approving their suitability before Gu Feng refines them in a protected chamber. 78 79

Protecting Gu Feng's Fifth-Ring Hunt

Gu Rong is astonished when fourteen-year-old Gu Feng returns to the sect at level 50. Alongside Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin, he supports greater preparation before Gu Feng attempts to absorb an exceptionally old fifth Soul Ring. 78 79

After Gu Feng refines his new Soul Bones, Gu Rong meets him and Ning Rongrong at the sect's mountain gate to escort their hunt in the Star Dou Great Forest. He approves of Gu Feng's improved vitality and spiritual control. 80

Gu Rong witnesses Gu Feng's victory over the fifty-thousand-year Wind-Thunder Heavenly Demon Carving and praises the coordination of his spiritual attack, gravitational pull, and close-range self-created technique. He remains vigilant during the dangerous absorption and reassures Rongrong while staying ready to help. Afterward, he examines Gu Feng and confirms his rise to level 55, then urges him to test his fifth Soul Skill. 82

Gu Rong experiences the newly awakened Wind Domain and recognizes its similarity to Chen Xin's Seven Kill Domain. He is also stunned by Wind-Thunder Possession's three-hundred-percent attribute enhancement lasting two hours, concluding that the beast's powerful attributes and compatibility have produced an unusually potent ability. 83

Surviving the Titan Giant Ape's Ambush

Xiao Wu recognizes Gu Rong near the dead soul beast and summons the Titan Giant Ape to retaliate for his extortion and her separation from Tang San. Gu Rong blocks its first punch with Bone Armor, counters its Gravity Domain through spatial power, and orders Gu Feng to escape with Ning Rongrong. 84

Gu Feng carries Rongrong to safety, while Gu Rong remains behind to hold off the beast. He later teleports out unharmed, claiming that he evaded the ape and even removed some of its fur before escaping. Rongrong checks him for injuries before he leads the pair away. 84

Preparing for a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring

Back at the sect, Gu Rong reports Gu Feng's advancement to level 55, the awakening of Wind Domain, and the Titan Giant Ape's unexpected attack. He assures Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin that neither young Soul Master was harmed, but admits that he has not determined why the beast attacked. 85

When Chen Xin speculates that Gu Feng's sixth Soul Ring might reach seventy or eighty thousand years, Gu Rong argues that Gu Feng's ambition will lead him to seek a hundred-thousand-year ring instead. The elders agree to prepare in advance. Ning Fengzhi orders secret reconnaissance in the Star Dou Great Forest to identify powerful beasts and study their territories and habits, while Chen Xin proposes recruiting Dugu Bo as an additional ally. 85

Rongrong's Soul Bone Complaint
