At dawn, Speros and his family went out to sea to fish as usual.
In the cave, their meager luggage had been packed away. Russell followed them aboard—or rather, he stayed close to Perseus, judging that he might trigger a World Quest through him.
The family of five relied on a small single-masted fishing boat with a simple sail for their livelihood. It was also their true home.
One could call him simple-minded, or one could say he had never been civilized. As the head of the household, Speros had no plans whatsoever for his own future or that of his family.
He was a fisherman, and he wanted his sons to become fishermen too. He had never considered making a living on land.
Russell had lived aboard sailing ships before, back in the Pirates of the Caribbean quest world. He knew a little about handling sails and found piloting the boat effortless.
Besides, a boat was also a means of transportation.
The blazing sun hung high overhead, and the sea glittered as waves slapped against the hull, kicking up white foam.
Perseus helped his father, one handling the sail and the other casting the net. Russell had only just recovered from a serious illness and was not suited for physical labor, so he sat at the stern fishing. Beside him sat the idle Tikora.
The twelve-year-old girl was innocent and simple. She sat quietly beside Russell, staring intently at the fishing rod with a solemn expression.
Russell raised a hand and ruffled Tikora's hair. Behind him, Perseus hauled in the net. It was another day without a catch.
