Background / History

Following the Olympians' victory in the ten-year Titanomachy, Zeus took the sky as his domain while Poseidon and Hades received the sea and Underworld. He consolidated his rule by allocating Divine Authorities, creating lasting conflict with older gods who outwardly obeyed him but resisted his system 1095 1096.

During his early clash with Russell and Poseidon, Zeus arrived in a semi-transparent Divine Soul state and immediately dominated the confrontation. Even while facing both opponents, he used overwhelming speed, lightning, and his Lightning Spear to batter them across the sky and sea 218 219. A subsequent series of betrayals and attacks—beginning with the Thunder Beast's explosion and followed by Poseidon and Russell—left him critically wounded and forced him to flee 223.

In the Olympus world, Zeus repeatedly used deceit to preserve his position. He impersonated Hades to approach Persephone, attempted to blame Poseidon for the incident, and later used Russell's appearance to deceive Selene 1081 1151. He also sought to claim both Perseus and Russell as his sons, offering them Golden Boughs while attempting to recruit Russell to Mount Olympus 1088 1089.

Zeus brought Russell to Mount Olympus as an aggressive instrument against the older gods and as a deterrent to Hades and Poseidon. He encouraged Russell to act arrogantly, provoke rivals, and seize valuable Divine Authorities on his behalf 1097 1099.

During the Demon Race invasion, Zeus fought alongside Hera and personally confronted Di Jiang. The destruction of Mount Olympus severely weakened him, and Di Jiang's attacks left him unable to recover his divine body in time 1175 1192 1193. After Hermes died rescuing him, Zeus was further wounded by Chaos and the Yin Yang Mirror 1193 1194.

Knowing he would not survive, Zeus transferred the Authority of the Sky to Hera and ordered her to pass it to Russell. He then self-destructed to take Chaos with him 1194. His remaining consciousness later attempted to use Russell as a vessel for resurrection, but Russell had already removed the contingency; Zeus was ultimately extinguished, and Russell became the new King of Gods 1204 1205.

Zeus is depicted in different forms across his appearances. In his early Divine Soul manifestation, he appears as an exceptionally handsome young man; later, he commonly appears as a dignified middle-aged man.

Personality

Zeus is ambitious, controlling, and intensely protective of his supremacy as King of Gods. He treats threats to his authority—including brothers, older gods, and even his own children—as problems to be exploited or eliminated 1096 1178. His political strategy relies on dividing rivals, empowering useful subordinates, and keeping Poseidon close in order to restrain Hades 1095 1099.

He is also shamelessly deceptive. Zeus impersonates others, shifts blame onto Poseidon, and uses Russell's face for his own desires without regard for the consequences 1081 1151. Despite this, he can act decisively in a crisis: when Olympus fell, he entrusted his authority to Russell and sacrificed himself to protect Hera and delay Chaos 1194.
