Johnny groaned inwardly. He had chased all the way, yet he had never managed to close the distance between himself and Silver Surfer.
Back in the city, Silver Surfer had ridden his board between the skyscrapers, leaving no trace of his flight path. Johnny had struggled to pursue him, unable to push his pride and joy to maximum speed.
After finally leaving the city, crossing the Hudson River into New Jersey, and beginning a straight-line race, Johnny discovered that Silver Surfer was even faster in a straight line. Even using every ounce of strength he had, he still could not catch up.
As the distance grew wider and Silver Surfer gradually vanished into the distance, Johnny decided to give up. He had even thought of an excuse for when he went back: it was not that he was incapable, but that the road was uneven, and the injuries he had suffered two days ago had yet to heal.

Two red beams streaked across the sky in an instant. Their intense heat rolled up massive waves of hot air, and Silver Surfer, flying at high speed, was caught off guard and struck head-on in midair. He spun several times before regaining his balance.
A large patch of mottled red burns covered his chest, standing out starkly against his silver-white body.
Supergirl flanked him from the side. She opened her left hand, clad in the Infinity Gauntlet, and whipped up a hurricane that blocked his path.
