Background
Liu Suifeng originated as an independent cultivator before becoming one of the Heavenly Martial Alliance’s founders. As its principal strategist, he designed the alliance’s institutional structure and external-campaign strategies, contributing directly to its rapid rise. During its later campaigns, he suffered injuries so severe that they could not be healed by ordinary means. He subsequently kept a low profile despite remaining one of the Martial Suppression Hall’s three most important figures. 68
At his peak, Liu had reached the Divine Altar Realm. His apparent decline concealed both his political influence and his long-term preparations: he continued secretly cultivating loyal personnel, maintaining formations, and watching the Hall’s internal factions. 71 88
Liu’s wife was mortally injured while protecting him during an ambush. He exchanged formation services with Medicine King Valley for a Divine Pill, saving her temporarily; her cultivation was ruined, however, and she died not long after giving birth to their daughter, Liu Feiyan. 473
Appearance
Liu Suifeng was initially introduced as an elegant, handsome middle-aged man with silver hair, a pale complexion, and a sickly demeanor. He wore a moon-white scholar’s robe, leaned on a cane, and stood slightly hunched. 71
- Tall and slender, though physically frail in appearance.
- Silver-haired and pale-skinned.
- Commonly associated with scholar’s robes, tea, books, and formation work.
- After recovering from his hidden injuries, he no longer appeared as sickly as before, though he remained thin and reserved. 430 431
Personality
Liu is exceptionally perceptive, calculated, and decisive. He reads political implications quickly, prefers capable people who understand unspoken conditions, and judges others primarily by their actions rather than their stated motives. His support for Chen Yuan rests on Chen’s accomplishments and usefulness, even after Liu recognizes that Chen has secrets and ambitions beyond the Martial Suppression Hall. 71 399
His outward composure masks a ruthless temperament. When Liu Feiyan was attacked, he ordered a month-long extermination campaign against the bandits of Wasteland Ridge despite the immediate culprits already being dead. 71 He is similarly willing to sacrifice territory, formations, and enemy expectations to secure a decisive strategic result. 504 507
Liu is deeply affectionate toward his only daughter, though he is strict about her cultivation and openly frustrated by her impulsiveness. 71 88
Abilities & Skills
Formation Dao
Liu’s defining ability is his mastery of Formation Dao. He can prepare large-scale formations, exploit environmental power, and—after Entering the Dao Through Formations—form arrays in the void to manipulate Heaven and Earth directly. 424 431
- Used White Tiger Hall’s accumulated feng shui and Geng Metal power to form the Geng Metal White Tiger Mystic-Slaying Sword, severely injuring the mid-stage Divine Realm expert Xu Baiwei. 252
- Built innumerable concealed formations beneath Tianning Prefecture, turning the Martial Suppression Hall headquarters into a battlefield under his control. 424 431
- Created the Golden Thread Soul-Locking Formation on Chao Hongtu’s concealed Primordial Spirit fragment within Qiu Sheng. 435
- Used the Locking Dragon Formation, Starshift, and Thousand-Formation Instant Detonation to seal, redirect an attack onto, and kill Yuan Jingshan. 494
- Converted Icefrost Peerless City into a massive “formation bomb” by layering thousands of formations over the Shangguan Clan’s existing defensive arrays. 507
- His strongest displays require preparation, advantageous terrain, and accumulated environmental power; Liu himself admits that a battle away from a prepared formation could be uncertain. 252
Strategic Planning
Liu specializes in long-term planning, psychological manipulation, and forcing opponents into unfavorable choices.
- Identifies how enemies are likely to react, then designs formations whose apparent weaknesses punish those reactions. 506
- Maintained covertly trained Shadow Guard personnel and intended to place them under Chen Yuan’s command after Chen became a Supervisory Envoy. 88
- Sent three hundred trained elites, including more than one hundred Qi Forging and Sea Wheel Realm martial artists, to reinforce Chen Yuan’s faction. 178
- Anticipated Chao Hongtu’s use of Qiu Sheng as a vessel and preserved Qiu Sheng as bait rather than eliminating him immediately. 431 435
- Chose to attack the Heaven-Forgetting Pavilion before the weakened Shangguan Clan because he correctly predicted Yuan Jingshan would have prepared traps for the more obvious target. 492
Political Leadership
Although he spent years away from daily administration, Liu retained authority second only to Chao Hongtu among the Martial Suppression Hall’s old guard. 399
- Recruited Chen Yuan into the Martial Suppression Hall and offered protection within its territory, provided Chen obeyed its rules. 71
- Sought to reform the Hall’s corruption and restore the declining institution through loyal personnel and talented younger members. 88
- Secured temporary control of Azure Dragon Hall for the Army-Breaking Guard with a single decision, forcing Qiu Sheng to yield. 399
- Backed Chen Yuan’s candidacy for White Tiger Hall Master because their interests had become politically intertwined. 248
Relationships
- Liu Feiyan — His only daughter. Liu is intensely protective of her, but disciplines her harshly to correct her laziness and impulsiveness. 71 88
- Chen Yuan / Chen Jiutian — Initially recruits Chen after Chen saves Liu Feiyan; their relationship develops into a politically valuable partnership built on mutual calculation, trust, and shared interests. 71 88 248 399
- Chao Hongtu — Former Heavenly Martial Alliance comrade and Martial Suppression Hall’s Grand Commander. Liu increasingly suspects Chao of betrayal and prepares for years to oppose his Corpse-Soul Path scheme. 399 435
- Yun Zhaolan — Longtime ally from the Heavenly Martial Alliance. She defers to Liu’s judgment during the struggle against Chao Hongtu and later fights alongside him against external enemies. 439 494
- Song Yanluo — Old friend and leader of the Misty Rain Alliance. At Liu’s request, she protects Chen Yuan before the Heaven-Piercing Tower opens. 293 307
- Qiu Sheng — Chao Hongtu’s disciple and an unwilling vessel for Chao’s Primordial Spirit. Liu keeps him alive because Qiu is necessary to draw Chao out. 431 435
- Unnamed wife — Liu’s late wife. He married her after she was fatally wounded protecting him; she died after giving birth to Liu Feiyan. 473
Story Role / Major Arcs
Chen Yuan’s Recruitment
After Chen Yuan rescues Liu Feiyan from the Venom Wolf Bandits, Liu accepts responsibility for him within the Martial Suppression Hall. He offers Chen protection and advancement, while making clear that Chen’s actions will reflect on Liu’s faction. 71
Reforming the Martial Suppression Hall
Liu recognizes that the Hall has become corrupt, factionalized, and short of capable successors. He rewards Chen’s achievements, gives him the Heaven-Tier Padmasambhava’s Six Paths Vajra Mantra, and begins positioning secretly trained personnel for institutional reform. 88
White Tiger Hall and Xu Baiwei
When Xu Baiwei targets Chen Yuan, Liu lures her into the prepared White Tiger Hall formation and cripples her with the Geng Metal White Tiger Mystic-Slaying Sword. The battle reveals that his sickly image conceals formidable Formation Dao attainments. 252
Conflict with Chao Hongtu
Liu’s authority clashes with Chao Hongtu’s increasingly open suspicion. He reveals that Chao may have been connected to the leak that led to Xie Wenyuan’s death and the Heavenly Martial Alliance’s catastrophic defeat. 399
When Chao attempts to use Qiu Sheng as a resurrection vessel through the Corpse-Soul Path, Liu activates his hidden Soul-Locking Formation and joins Yun Zhaolan and Granny Dragon Ghost in opposing him. 435
Defense of Tianning Prefecture
During the Shangguan Clan’s assault on the Martial Suppression Hall, Liu reveals that he has buried countless formations beneath Tianning Prefecture. He makes himself their core, using the city itself as a weapon against the invading force. 431
Azure Province Campaign
Liu defeats Yuan Jingshan through layered formations and misdirection, redirecting Shangguan Feibai’s attack through Starshift before annihilating Yuan with Thousand-Formation Instant Detonation. 494
He later delays the Demon-Suppressing Alliance with deliberately misleading formation layers, then detonates Icefrost Peerless City after transforming it into a thousand-formation killing array. 506 507
