Shen Luo hesitated briefly, then chased after him.
Before he could reach him, a black whirlwind slammed down from the sky. Another thunderous crash rang out, and Lu Huaming flew backward out of the woods, landing in front of Shen Luo.
Shen Luo hurried forward and helped him up.
"Brother Jia Cheng, where's that old fellow?" Lu Huaming asked, wiping blood from the corner of his mouth.
"The seal injured him. He's dead," Shen Luo explained.
"And the seal? Was it damaged?" Lu Huaming asked at once.
Shen Luo glanced toward the pond in the distance. "It doesn't look like it."
"Good. That's good." Lu Huaming breathed a sigh of relief.
The words had barely left his mouth when two towering trees in the woods ahead snapped in half with a crack and came hurtling toward them.
Both men leaped back out of the way.
"There's still a troublesome ghost to deal with. This is a Millennium Treasureheart Pill. It'll help heal your injuries quickly and restore some of your magic power. I'll need your help fighting him, Brother Jia Cheng." Lu Huaming took a porcelain bottle from his sleeve and handed it to Shen Luo.
Shen Luo hesitated, then accepted it. When he pulled out the stopper and tipped the bottle, its sole remaining pill, blue-green in color, rolled into his hand.
He sniffed it lightly. A rich herbal scent filled his nose. Then he tossed the pill into his mouth and swallowed it.
As soon as it reached his stomach, the pill turned into a warm current that spread through his meridians. The wound across his chest and abdomen began to itch and tingle strangely, as though it were healing bit by bit.
Magic power also began to gather in his Dantian, easing much of the emptiness he
