Ch. 401A True Master?
Plot points and events
- An old monk tells Shen Luo that he appears outwardly healthy but faces a tribulation tied to his lifespan. Shen Luo doubts him, but pays for a divination.
- Using six coins, the monk identifies the Jie Hexagram and says Shen Luo is searching for something in the western part of town, near a place with “willow” in its name.
- Though unsettled by the monk’s accuracy, Shen Luo initially returns to a mansion he had searched before. He then decides to follow the clue and goes to Silver Willow Alley.
- The Shadow Gu urgently leads him to a moss-covered bluestone beside a well, rather than the imposing gate Shen Luo expected. He realizes the town may have changed over the centuries since the jade slip’s description was made.
- Shen Luo raises and cleans the stone with water magic, revealing a large piece of translucent green jade with a faint fragrance matching the description of Millennium Spiritual Milk. He stores it, leaves silver as compensation, and returns to the inn.
- After sealing his room with a water barrier, he places the jade on the table and prepares to examine it.
Character developments and interactions
- Shen Luo moves from skepticism to serious doubt about the monk’s abilities after the divination proves accurate. He remains cautious, however, and investigates the clue himself.
- The old monk presents himself as a playful, fee-charging fortune-teller, but his reading appears genuinely precise. His novice supports him, collects the payment, and helps him leave when the crowd asks for readings.
- Shen Luo relies on the Shadow Gu’s excited response to locate the hidden object, then uses water magic to retrieve and clean it. He also leaves payment for the household whose courtyard he disturbed.

- Preparation and adaptation: Shen Luo succeeds by combining old information, careful exploration, magical skill, and the Shadow Gu’s instincts.
