Entering the City (Part Two)

"Baron Teta Xiao, you're finally back. If you'd taken any longer, we would have come after you," Baron Mengpiya said as he stepped down from the carriage.

Romon did not believe that for a moment. Baron Mengpiya would never have gone back for him. It was merely something polite to say now that he had returned safely.

He could only take it as a joke.

"Sorry to have worried everyone." Even so, Romon gave the proper response.

Whatever Baron Mengpiya's reasons for showing concern, they were part of the same group for now. Since he had offered goodwill, Romon owed him at least the same courtesy.

"Sir, shall we keep moving?" the driver of the lead carriage asked Baron Mengpiya.

Baron Mengpiya shot him a look. "Of course not. Can't you see Baron Teta Xiao is back? Everyone will rest here until we've heard what he has to say. And hurry, get Baron Teta Xiao some breakfast!"

"Yes, sir." The driver went off to carry out his orders, and the others settled down to rest.

"My lord, take me with you next time!" Lusenpei came up to Romon. "I'm your guard!"

"I will next time." Romon patted him on the shoulder. Baron Mengpiya, having finished giving his orders, came over.

"Baron Teta Xiao, come sit over here." As he spoke, Baron Mengpiya looked Romon up and down. Seeing no sign of injury, he grew uneasy.

He wondered how Romon's reconnaissance had gone. "Baron Teta Xiao, you were gone a long time. Did you find anything?"

"I came across a Necromancer and a Mage Tower. It took me this long because I destroyed them."

Romon sat down beneath a tree and gave Baron Mengpiya a full account of what he had been through.
