Refugees (Part Two)

"My god, that's a good number of people this time!"

Sukar, Fafier, Nick, and the others were delighted.

The three of them had arrived a little late, and by then the onlookers had packed the area.

"Sukar, with a crowd like that up ahead, we shouldn't go any farther. Even if we wanted to, the carriage and horses couldn't get through. And with this many people, any trouble would be hard to handle," Fafier said. He had learned enough by now to recognize the risk.

Nick gave him an approving glance. Fafier had a point.

"I've already sent for the Far-Sail Town Guard Corps. They should be here soon," Sukar replied at once.

He had not expected such a large crowd, especially so many people from outside the town.

"Tell His Lordship not to let all the refugees disembark yet. The Guard Corps hasn't arrived. With so many refugees and townspeople here, one disturbance could give certain people something to laugh about," Nick said. He sent an attendant over with the message.

The attendant pushed through the crowd and spoke to Romon.

Romon was arranging where the newcomers would go when the attendant approached. After hearing him out, Romon surveyed the scene and saw that something was amiss.

On his own, Romon would not have been afraid in the slightest. But the situation did pose a risk, and he had no wish to cause trouble for his subordinates and friends. He would have to act cautiously.

"Go back and tell the administrator not to worry!" Romon thought they were making rather too much of it, but he had put his subordinates in full charge of security. He would not set a bad example by overturning their decisions on a whim.
