The wilderness at night was quiet. The moon hanging in the sky was exceptionally round. Above, in the cloudless night sky, the stars shone, yet they were not particularly clear. The moon that kept them company, however, seemed huge and dazzling.

The bright moon cast its white light evenly and impartially across the earth. Its gentle radiance made this stretch of land seem tranquil and peaceful.

Along the undulating hill road, a winding procession moved forward. Tekaxiu rode at the front on a warhorse, side by side with Romon. Above them, a giant eagle circled ceaselessly. Lightning was observing the surroundings; its incomparably sharp eyes could spot any sudden developments nearby even under the shroud of darkness.

Tekaxiu was not very familiar with the terrain in this area, but he had asked around about the route beforehand and had a simple map in hand. He could still serve as something of a guide.

Several hundred people followed behind them, men and women alike, all driving large carts loaded with daily necessities. The carts were pulled by sluggish, dim-witted oxen and horses, but that was still better than travelling on foot.

After entering the city last time, they had handed over their mission quite smoothly, and the local Adventurers' Guild had welcomed them.

This time, Romon and Tekaxiu had accepted a mission to escort refugees to a resettlement town. The mission was not particularly easy, yet the reward was not high. The reason was that few people were willing to take on this sort of work.

Such missions required the escorts to be strong, consumed a great deal of time, and offered no corresponding reward. Few people accepted them.

Besides the few dozen people Romon had saved, this group of refugees included others who had escaped from various villages and towns.
