Two mornings later, Romon dressed neatly and took a carriage to pay his respects to His Majesty.

Beyond the inn where they were staying lay a broad avenue leading straight to the Royal Palace. By carriage, it would take roughly half an hour to reach it.

The journey was somewhat long, but there was no helping it. The areas surrounding the Royal Capital were occupied by all manner of important buildings, as well as the residences of high-ranking nobles and members of the Royal House.

The inn where Romon's family stayed was already considered relatively close to the Royal Palace. Even so, the trip from the inn to the palace still took half an hour.

That was by carriage. On foot, one probably would not even reach the Royal Palace by midday.

"Three years have passed, and the Royal Capital has changed quite a bit!" As they traveled along one of the main roads toward the Royal Palace, there were not many shops, but there was no shortage of grand buildings.

Although Romon had spent three days taking his wife and children around, they had mostly wandered through the shopping and entertainment districts.

Those with no business to conduct rarely ventured near the political district.

The closer they came to the Royal Palace, the more soldiers they saw patrolling the streets. Along the way, their carriage encountered two groups conducting inspections.

That was under peaceful conditions. If war broke out, the area surrounding the Royal Palace would become even more heavily guarded. The last time Romon had come to see the King, he had encountered five or six groups of inspectors along the road.

The country Romon lived in had experienced many wars, and the most recent Demon Calamity had been especially severe.
