Several fully armed soldiers stood guard in front of the Temple of the Goddess of Agriculture.
Seeing a carriage approach, two of them walked over.
"Lord?" Before they reached the carriage, someone stepped down from the stopped vehicle.
The two soldiers recognized him as Romon, the local lord and the husband of their Archbishop Eileen, and hurried forward to salute him.
"No need for formalities. I came to worship. Is Lady Eileen here?" Romon asked with a mild expression.

"Lord, Her Excellency the Archbishop went to the Temple Warrior Camp and has not returned yet," one of them answered respectfully.
Romon wanted to see Eileen and confirm his suspicions, but he had no time now. It did not matter; he had not come specifically to find his wife. He nodded. "I understand."
Then he looked toward the Temple and asked, "Are there many people worshipping now?"
"Lord, there are quite a few in the mornings and evenings. There is hardly anyone worshipping inside at this hour," the soldier replied.
That suited him perfectly. Romon thanked him and headed into the Temple.
When he reached the gates, the others also saluted him. Romon returned each greeting in turn, his manner calm and gentle.
