Sunlight spilled across the corridor, shining directly on Romon's face. At his side were Nick and Fafier.
They strolled slowly along the corridor as if taking a walk, speaking in low voices as they went.
Listening closely, one would find that everything they discussed concerned the territory.
"My lord, that is the situation. Repairing the new roads this time will cost at least three thousand gold coins..." Nick, walking to Romon's right, had just given him a detailed account of the plan to repair every road in Tatshaw Territory. He was now stating the estimated cost of the undertaking.
After Nick finished speaking, Fafier, walking on Romon's left, suddenly turned his head and gave Nick a long, deep look. Then he lowered his head in silence and resumed his thoughts.
With Romon between them, Nick immediately sensed something and glanced back in Fafier's direction. However, Fafier had his head lowered in thought and did not notice Nick's movement.
The sudden silence created an odd atmosphere that made one feel uncomfortable all over.
Romon, caught between them, had already noticed the strange mood. Yet both men were doing their best to maintain their silence, making it difficult for him to expose it directly.
In any case, they certainly won't be able to endure it for long.
As time passed, the relationship between the two had in fact changed.
The two men who used to laugh and joke whenever they met now walked quietly on either side of Romon, rarely speaking to each other.
