This tiny village lay in a mountain hollow near the Thorn Forest.

The village's wooden houses formed a cross, with a council hall and storehouse in the center. All kinds of grain were stored in the storehouse.

At dusk, the villagers slowly returned after an afternoon's work in the fields.

Before long, the smell of baking bread and cooked vegetables, along with smoke from the hearths, filled the village that had been so quiet moments earlier.

Misen hurried forward to straighten the table and chairs and set out the dishes.

Dinner was simple: bread, vegetables, and some meat.

After dinner, Misen suddenly slapped his forehead. "I almost forgot. Danny told me she wanted to talk to you about something. I asked her what it was, but she wouldn't say."

Makaya nodded without giving it much thought. "All right, have her come over!"

Misen put the matter out of his mind and went off to do his own things.

Once everything had been tidied up, Makaya went outside. Moonlight already shone over the distant mountains and forest. After walking a few steps, a sudden feeling of melancholy and longing welled up in her heart.

Back in the Delanya Kingdom, there had been a village much like this one. Her people had grown to over a hundred households, only to be discovered and attacked.
