Bai Yi turned to Zhou Mo, who looked a little uneasy, and smiled. "Why so nervous? I'm not going to eat you."
"Haha... Is it that obvious?" Zhou Mo scratched her head awkwardly.
Bai Yi glanced at her, then looked back out the window. "Zhou Mo."
"Yeah, I'm here."
"What do you think Magical Girls mean to humanity?"
"Huh?"
Zhou Mo froze. She hadn't expected Bai Yi to ask such an odd question.
Was that really a question an ordinary high school boy like me could answer?
After thinking for a long while, Zhou Mo answered uncertainly, "Hope, I guess?"
"Hope..."
Bai Yi murmured the word, her eyes shifting as though she were lost in thought.
She studied Zhou Mo's face. After a long silence, she suddenly said, "Zhou Mo, you don't have to hide it from me."
Clatter!
A chair toppled over.
Bai Yi blinked and watched without much expression as Zhou Mo sat on the floor, rubbing her backside and crying out in pain.
"Ow, ow, ow..."
Wincing, Zhou Mo held her waist as she got up and looked at Bai Yi again.
After a moment's hesitation, she asked tentatively, "Um... what do you mean by that?"
Bai Yi said nothing. She rose from her chair and took Zhou Mo's hand.
Before Zhou Mo could react, Bai Yi closed her eyes. An invisible ripple spread from her body.
The gem at her chest glimmered faintly, then quickly went dark again.
A moment later, Bai Yi opened her eyes. A trace of disappointment flickered through them.
Her ability still wouldn't activate.
But...
Bai Yi raised her head and stared straight at Zhou Mo.
"You're a Magical Girl, aren't you?"
The moment she said it, Zhou Mo felt the world around her go dark, and some intense background music inexplicably
