Background

Yu Tu was the Blue River System’s First Commander, a feared and highly accomplished military figure personally promoted by His Majesty Blue River. Despite this reputation for loyalty, he was arrested on charges of first-degree treason: allegedly organizing a palace coup with wandering refugees. He was transferred to First Prison on Calamity Planet under extreme military guard, as even his escorts were terrified of him 1 3 17.

Before his imprisonment, Yu Tu and Lu Mi were lovers and bore reciprocal Partner Marks. At some point, Yu Tu’s Violet Slaughter Vine pierced Lu Mi’s abdomen, nearly killing him. Yu Tu later lost the memory of the incident, along with nearly all memories beyond roughly two months; he remembers his identity and imprisonment but not the alleged coup or betrayal 11 12 25.

Yu Tu’s Diamond-Grade Energy Crystal was surgically removed from the back of his neck. Lan Su’s investigation further indicates that Yu Tu was likely subjected to repeated genetic-reproduction experiments and administered a lethal amount of Desire Compound before his arrest 14 27.

Yu Tu is a tall, pale man whose cold, intimidating appearance initially reinforces his feared reputation.

Personality

Yu Tu initially presents himself as an expressionless, merciless commander. After awakening in prison with missing memories, however, he admits that his cold demeanor was partly an act to conceal how frightened and helpless he felt in confinement 23.

In private, he is emotionally direct, socially naïve, clingy, and easily confused by sarcasm or double meanings. His attachment to Lu Mi persists independently of his damaged memories; he consistently seeks Lu Mi’s approval, comfort, and presence 16 22 35.

His gentleness is paired with dangerous possessiveness and extreme violence when threatened or provoked. He attacks those who harm Lu Mi, refuses coercion, and brutally kills Ai Mu after the prisoner attempts to assault him 19 32. His behavior can also become instinct-driven and unstable, likely due to environmental stress, memory damage, and external drugging 21 27.

Imprisonment at First Prison

Yu Tu arrives on Calamity Planet as an allegedly traitorous former commander and is registered as Prisoner 0456. His first encounter with Lu Mi is treated by the prison population as a potential clash between two terrifying figures, but their past connection quickly becomes apparent 1 3 11.

Memory Loss and Investigation

Yu Tu insists that he does not remember organizing a coup, attacking Lu Mi, or committing treason. Tests suggest that his mind is nearly blank, while the removal of his Energy Crystal and his abnormal continuing power raise further suspicion around his imprisonment 12 14 17.

Lan Su’s research later indicates that Yu Tu was likely drugged and exploited as a breeding subject because of his unique Diamond-Grade Vine 27.

Prison Life and the Ai Mu Incident

Under Lu Mi’s protection, Yu Tu begins following First Prison’s routine while concealing his Vine power. His intimidating presence terrifies other prisoners even when he believes they are being friendly 29.

When Ai Mu attempts to assault him in Workroom Seven, Yu Tu retaliates with a screwdriver and white vines, killing him despite five Energy Lock Rings. The incident creates a pretext for his punishment and later emergency interrogation 32 33.

Second Prison Torture and Aberrant Awakening

Yu Tu is transferred to Second Prison during Lu Mi’s absence and tortured under Tian Chi’s orders. He refuses to use his vines or leave Calamity Planet, choosing to protect Lu Mi and remain near him instead 38 39.

After Lu Mi rescues him, Yu Tu senses Lu Mi’s life-threatening injury through their Partner Marks. His aberrant state awakens, restores his memories, and allows him to heal Lu Mi at the cost of entering dormancy 40 41.

Rebellion

Yu Tu becomes part of First Prison’s rebellion against the Blue River authorities. Although weakened after losing his Energy Crystal, he operates Cang Qi’s Energy Sprayer and publicly rejects Tian Chi’s claim over him 48 49.
