Ch. 1721Assassination
Chapter Summary: “Assassination”
Key Plot Points and Events
- The battle among Mu He, Jin San, and Zhu Changfeng continues over the Law Fragments. After losing one of his abilities, Mu He becomes more defensive, while Jin San’s Earth Giant form gains the advantage.
- Mu He deliberately binds Jin San with vines, creating an opening for Zhu Changfeng to attack Jin San’s crystal, which enhances his offensive power.
- Zhu Changfeng takes the bait and attacks Jin San, but Mu He’s true target is Zhu Changfeng. Mu He launches a devastating attack, willingly allowing Zhu Changfeng’s Sword Qi to injure him so that his vines can penetrate Zhu Changfeng’s defenses.
- Jin San follows up by striking Zhu Changfeng, severely injuring him. Mu He himself suffers a deep wound that exposes his wood core, effectively damaging his Inner World.
- Mu He throws a Law Fragment toward Zhu Changfeng and flees. Jin San chooses to pursue the more heavily injured Zhu Changfeng.
- Huo Hai decides to pursue Mu He instead, motivated by his grudge against the Mu Family. Using the Concealment Art, he secretly catches up to the badly wounded Mu He.
- Huo Hai ambushes Mu He with successive Sword Qi attacks. His final strike pierces Mu He’s already damaged Inner World and shatters his Origin Essence and Law Source.
- Mu He’s physical body is effectively destroyed, but his soul escapes, allowing him the possibility of reincarnation. However, his cultivation is completely lost, and rebuilding will require considerable time.
- Mu He’s dying attack severely wounds Huo Hai, embedding Wood Attribute power in his body. Huo Hai nevertheless salvages Mu He’s Inner World and corpse, intending to harvest its valuable Divine Grade wood.
- Huo Hai leaves the battlefield and exits the illusion forest. Other cultivators try to follow him, hoping to exploit his injuries or steal his gains, but his Concealment Art erases his trail and defeats their tracking techniques.
- Despite being injured, Huo Hai is pleased with his harvest and looks forward to gaining even greater rewards in future battles.
Character Developments
- Mu He: Reveals himself to be extremely ruthless and willing to exchange serious injuries for a chance to eliminate Zhu Changfeng. His determination stems from Zhu Changfeng blocking his attempted breakthrough. Though defeated by Huo Hai, he survives as a soul and retains his memories and experience, setting up the possibility of future revenge.
- Zhu Changfeng: Demonstrates excellent battlefield awareness and timing by targeting Jin San’s power-enhancing crystal. However, he is outmaneuvered by Mu He’s deceptive strategy and suffers severe injuries.
- Jin San: Takes advantage of Mu He’s trap and lands a powerful blow on Zhu Changfeng. He chooses to pursue Zhu Changfeng rather than Mu He because Zhu Changfeng is more injured and carries more Law Fragments.
- Huo Hai: Shows increasing confidence, tactical patience, and ruthlessness. He chooses the more valuable target, successfully assassinates Mu He through stealth and precise attacks, salvages the battlefield, and escapes pursuing enemies using his Concealment Art.
Significant Themes
- Deception and battlefield strategy: Mu He’s apparent attack on Jin San is actually a trap for Zhu Changfeng, while Huo Hai uses stealth and misdirection to assassinate Mu He.
- Willingness to sacrifice: Mu He deliberately accepts severe damage to land a decisive attack, emphasizing the brutality of the struggle for power.
- Revenge and inherited grudges: Huo Hai attacks Mu He not merely for immediate gain but to settle his broader debt to the Mu Family.
- Survival and rebirth: Even after his body, Inner World, and cultivation are destroyed, Mu He’s escaping soul preserves the possibility of future return.
- Risk versus reward: Every major character balances injury against the chance to obtain Law Fragments, eliminate rivals, or seize valuable resources.
- Stealth and opportunism: Huo Hai’s success comes from striking when Mu He is weakened and escaping before others can exploit his own injuries.
Character Interactions
- Mu He and Jin San: Mu He uses vines to restrain Jin San and manipulate the battlefield, but Jin San later attacks Zhu Changfeng when Mu He’s trap is sprung.
- Mu He and Zhu Changfeng: Their conflict is the chapter’s central confrontation. Zhu Changfeng disrupts Mu He’s attempted breakthrough, provoking Mu He into a near-suicidal attack. Both are badly wounded, but Mu He later flees.
- Jin San and Zhu Changfeng: Jin San capitalizes on Zhu Changfeng’s distraction and sends him flying with a powerful punch, then pursues him for his Law Fragments.
- Huo Hai and Mu He: Huo Hai secretly tracks and ambushes Mu He, destroys his cultivation, takes possession of his remains, and forces him into a long and uncertain path toward recovery.
- Huo Hai and the pursuing cultivators: Huo Hai avoids direct confrontation by using the Concealment Art, frustrating those who attempt to track or ambush him.
