The owner replied with a single crisp word, deftly yanking the gloves behind the counter as though afraid Fu Junlin might run away.
He turned on the polishing machine, put the gloves inside, then came over to collect the money.
Fu Junlin handed him a fifty.
"Do you have anything smaller...?"
The owner awkwardly patted his pockets.
"You can't make change?"
Fu Junlin froze. He did not have enough loose change to make up thirty-eight.
"I can't. How about I don't give you change? I'll get you another set—another set."
As he spoke, the owner indisputably took a set of cleaning solution from the cabinet and handed it to Fu Junlin.
Fu Junlin's eye twitched. Something about this felt off.
"I feel like you got ripped off. Is this what they call being fair to everyone?"
Big Black burst into a sly laugh.
"This is called never seeing each other again. A one-shot deal."
Fu Junlin silently complained to himself. The cost of this stuff was probably not even ten bucks.
Still, it was only right to let the man make a little money.
After putting away the cleaning solution and waiting about three minutes, a pair of brand-new gloves emerged. Their bronze color gleamed brilliantly, and a layer of water wax made their surface exceptionally smooth. The color alone gave off a powerful, imposing feel.
Even the corroded pits had been completely filled in.
"Nice craftsmanship!"
Fu Junlin smiled faintly and praised him.
The owner chuckled and pointed at the items on the counter, about to launch into another endless introduction.
Just then, the phone rang, saving Fu Junlin. He hurried away from the counter and took out his phone.
It was Cheng Xiaoyu.
"Hello, Young Master Cheng."
Fu Junlin's tone was filled with resentment.
"Brother Fu, don't be angry. I know what happened. Why didn't you tell me at the time?!"
Cheng Xiaoyu first apologized with a smile, then began scolding him loudly.
"How could I?"
Fu Junlin said helplessly. Calling Cheng Xiaoyu in front of his uncle? What if Cheng Xiaoyu could not stand up to his uncle? Wouldn't that make him an idiot?
"Do this—I'll be there at two! Wait for me there. Today, I want to see who can stop you from using the Gravity Room!!"
Cheng Xiaoyu declared firmly.
He seemed prepared to show even his uncle no respect.
After the two had eaten together yesterday, Cheng Xiaoyu had been extremely curious.
Why did Fu Junlin insist on using that Gravity Room? He could have simply asked for money, and Cheng Xiaoyu would have had the Intent to give it to him.
But Fu Junlin only wanted to use the Gravity Room, saying it was very important to him.
Cheng Xiaoyu did not want to pry into someone else's privacy, but since he had promised, he had to keep his word.
After hanging up, Fu Junlin did not hold out much hope.
Cheng Xiaoyu would probably just bring him over to make a show of force, argue with his uncle in person to save face, and leave it at that.
By then, Fu Junlin would have to "be sensible" and, afraid things might blow up, take the initiative to pull Cheng Xiaoyu away and say to forget it.
That was probably how things would go.
"This Young Master Cheng really seems like the kind who values brotherhood. Feels like he could be a friend."
Big Black sighed after hearing everything.
"Can you stop using idioms? You haven't used a single one correctly so far!"
Fu Junlin rolled his eyes.
"Huh? Was that wrong? If it's wrong, you can teach me. How can I use them correctly if you don't teach me? If it's not called brotherhood, what is it called? Righteousness reaching the heavens, heartless and unrighteous, duty-bound..."
With Big Black chattering all the way, Fu Junlin returned to the gym.
It was already around two in the afternoon, and the gym had grown more crowded.
After waiting another half hour or so, Cheng Xiaoyu finally rushed over.
His face was filled with anger.
He looked completely different from his usual cheerful, laughing self.
"Brother Fu! I'm really sorry!"
He apologized the moment he arrived, making Fu Junlin feel a little embarrassed at the Intent behind it.
"You didn't make things ugly with your uncle over this, did you? If so, forget it."
Fu Junlin tested the waters.
"Hmph! The gym is my dad's business. My uncle just loafs around everywhere. Letting him be vice president is already giving him far more credit than he deserves! You don't understand our relationship. It's fine!"
Cheng Xiaoyu spoke with disdain, as though he did not take his uncle seriously at all.
As he spoke, he patted Fu Junlin's arm to reassure him, then signaled his Intent that Fu Junlin could relax before leading him inside.
Clearly, his uncle had not left yet.
The moment Cheng Xiaoyu entered, his uncle came out of the office and greeted him with a fake smile.
"Big nephew, you're back?"
"Tell me, why won't you let him use the black card I gave him??"
Cheng Xiaoyu immediately demanded without any courtesy.
Fu Junlin really wanted to cover his face and find a crack in the ground to crawl into.
Cheng Xiaoyu's uncle looked even worse. He clearly had not expected Cheng Xiaoyu to speak to him like that in front of so many people. With a livid face, he angrily rebuked him:
"What kind of bullshit question is that? Can the Gravity Room be used just by anyone?"
"What? It's my own family's property. Does what I say not count??"
Cheng Xiaoyu shot back without backing down.
"Hmph, I really hope your father hears you say that!"
His uncle said coldly.
"You can inform him. While you're at it, tell him why you came here again—running promotions, cooking the books, and selling point cards cheap so you can skim money for yourself???"
Cheng Xiaoyu gave a cold laugh and directly pulled out his phone.
His uncle's expression changed drastically. He had not expected Cheng Xiaoyu to humiliate him so publicly!
"What are you talking about!!"
He pointed at Cheng Xiaoyu and shouted:
"I'll give you one last chance. Give him the card. I want to watch him enter the Gravity Room right now. Let's see who can stop him!!"
Cheng Xiaoyu roared, his voice making the front desk area hum.
Nearly half the people in the gym gathered around.
Fu Junlin was beyond embarrassed. Even if Cheng Xiaoyu won this for him now, how could he have the Intent to shamelessly walk in?
Still, Cheng Xiaoyu did not seem to be acting. This reckless streak was what a real rich second-generation heir should have.
"What are you doing?!"
Just then, another man stepped out of the elevator. He wore black-rimmed glasses and looked refined and scholarly. The moment he saw the scene, he hurried over.
"Secretary Li, you came at just the right time! Your Young Master Cheng is acting up again, insisting that a Subspecies be allowed into the Gravity Room. You deal with it!"
Cheng Xiaoyu's uncle struck first with false accusations and immediately said to Secretary Li.
Secretary Li had come this time because Cheng Xiaoyu's father had sent him. He knew his younger brother had gone to cook the books again, so he had sent Secretary Li to stop him.
If his brother lacked money, he could give him some, but he deeply disliked his brother using petty tricks to siphon money from him.
But Secretary Li had no mind to deal with that right now. Seeing Cheng Xiaoyu red in the face and thick in the neck, he could tell the two had definitely gotten into a heated argument.
"Young Master. What happened?"
Cheng Xiaoyu glanced at him, and half his momentum vanished. Secretary Li was the Cheng Family's chief steward. Aside from his father, Cheng Xiaoyu only listened to this man.
"Uncle Li, I already promised my friend, so I can't go back on my word. Besides, I've long had enough of this rule that Subspecies aren't allowed to use the Gravity Room!
The Federation has already advocated racial equality and eliminating discrimination. Why should we still discriminate against Subspecies? Is their fate something they get to choose?"
Cheng Xiaoyu took a deep breath and spoke to Secretary Li with resounding conviction.
