Background

Black Emperor was raised by Emperor Wushi and remained fiercely devoted to him long after the Emperor’s disappearance. Wushi sealed him within Divine Source in Purple Mountain, where he slept through tens of thousands of years before awakening in the current era. 101 157

Although Wushi established his exceptional foundation, Black Emperor later self-severed and recultivated rather than relying on inherited strength. He claims that Wushi expected him to become an emperor, but his present path is his own. 574 605

He preserves fragments of Wushi’s Dao resonance and formation knowledge rather than a complete inheritance. According to Black Emperor, Wushi never directly taught him a full secret art; he only observed the Emperor’s demonstrations and remembered what he could. 605

Black Emperor is extravagantly proud, theatrical, and self-important. He repeatedly calls himself an emperor, declares that he will become immortal, and demands recognition from others—yet immediately concedes that Emperor Wushi has no equal when his master is mentioned. 101

He is greedy and opportunistic, eagerly pursuing Source Stones, Medicine Kings, Immortal Metal, coffins, and any treasure he believes Qin Sheng has acquired. He is also pragmatic: when Jin Shanshan is identified as a Living Fossil-level existence, he abandons a fight rather than challenge a superior opponent. 118 250 251

Despite his selfish habits, Black Emperor has a clear soft spot for Xiao Nannan. He lets her ride on him, tries to persuade Qin Sheng to let him raise her, and—alongside Duan De—does not forcibly take treasures entrusted to her. 163 606
