A withered forest, pale mist.
Morien opened his eyes again, glanced down at the lake water reaching his ankles, and stretched his body.
The fluorescent patterns on his body had improved noticeably. From their initial horrifying appearance, they had now become faint tattoos that were almost decorative.
At that moment, Morien's ears twitched slightly. His enhanced hearing quickly picked up movement some distance away.
His gaze pierced through the mist, and Morien soon saw what was making the noise.
They were the things that had constantly tried to ambush him over the past few days.
They looked as if they had once been human, at least, since they were wearing clothes.
Daily novel reading, thoughtful as ever, waiting for you to seek it out.
Their bodies were hunched, their clothes tattered, and they crawled along the ground. A small arm protruded from each side of their ribs.
Including their legs, they had six limbs in total.
They crawled like spiders through the lakeside forest not far from Morien, wandering aimlessly.
Looking at them, Morien suddenly curled his lips into a smile.
A few days ago, I had no strength. You chased me around like a dog.
Now that I have strength, how are you going to face me?
He raised a hand and moved the mask hanging at the side of his face over his face. Blue Cursed Energy ignited in his palm.
The Cursed Energy instantly enveloped the mask, then his head, then his entire body.
Very quickly, Morien's whole body was set ablaze with blue Cursed Energy flames.
He released the mask, swept his hand upward to brush back his hair, and looked at the strange creatures before him. Beneath the mask, his lips curled into a wild grin.
"Your Uncle Morien is about to thoroughly digest the Melee Scholar Potion."
The fluorescent patterns on his body cracked open one after another.
Monsterification.
As Morien actively dispelled his ability to reduce his own presence and activated Monsterification, the strange creatures crawling around him all turned to look at him.
Morien wore a smile as he stepped toward them.
They crawled across the ground like spiders, closing in on Morien.
Both sides gradually picked up speed. Soon, Morien broke into a jog, while several strange creatures on the other side shrieked and pounced at him.
Bang!
A sound like a bullet leaving the chamber rang out.
One head shattered in response.
One of the strange creatures—or rather, half of one, with its entire upper body blown apart—fell to the ground.
After blowing up one, Morien grabbed another that had leapt at him with his backhand. His five fingers clawed around its face, lifting the creature that was used to crawling until it was level with him.
The strange creature continued struggling, but Morien's other hand, smeared with blood, had already drawn back.
Slap!
He made a forceful clapping motion.
With one hand gripping the strange creature's head, he performed a clap.
His two palms struck together solidly, and fragments scattered everywhere before him.
Some of the filthy debris flew toward Morien, but the Cursed Energy coating his body repelled all of it.
Just then, several half-orange, half-grayish-brown balls of light slammed into him from behind.
Morien's Spirituality instinct was immediately stirred.
He bent down with the motion, plunged his palm into the mud beneath his feet, and heaved upward as he turned around.
Whoosh!
A three-to-four-meter-high "wave" of mud was forcibly lifted up, then crashed back down, burying those balls of light.
Not far behind him were two strange creatures similar to the ones from before that had ambushed him.
They too crawled on the ground, with four arms and two legs, but they were wrapped in hooded robes. One of them held a bell emitting a faint blue glow.
Jingle, jingle, jingle!
As the bell shook, jingling rang out, and more half-orange, half-grayish-brown balls of light floated from the bell and flew toward Morien.
The balls of light were not very fast. Morien easily dodged them with a few sidesteps.
As he evaded them, he steadily approached the strange creatures that had ambushed him.
Sensing death drawing near, the two strange creatures raised the bells in their hands high, intending to shake them faster.
But...
Nothing happened.
Not a sound came out.
The strange creatures raised their heads in confusion, only to find that they could not see their own hands.
Morien had somehow already appeared behind them. He casually tossed the two torn-off arms to the ground, then picked up the bells and gave them an experimental shake.
Jingle, jingle, jingle.
A clear chime rang out, but no similar balls of light flew forth.
"Tch." Morien clicked his tongue, crushed the bells with a squeeze, then turned and kicked the heads off the monsters trying to counterattack, one after another.
Huff...
All of a sudden, the mist around him thickened. White fog spread in from every direction, surrounding Morien.
Tap, tap, tap.
Morien vaguely heard the sound of hooves striking the water's surface.
But the white fog around him seemed capable of absorbing not only sight but sound as well, making it difficult for Morien to determine what was around him.
"What the fuck is that noise?" Brushing away the remaining bell fragments in his palm, Morien bent down and picked up a stone from beneath the water, tossing it in his hand.
The surrounding mist grew denser and denser, while Morien stood perfectly still.
Balls of light flew out of the white mist one after another, heading toward Morien.
Morien remained motionless, allowing the balls of light to strike the Cursed Energy around his body.
Puff! Puff! Puff!
The balls of light exploded one after another, and bone-deep cold spread throughout Morien's body.
Even though the Cursed Energy blocked most of the damage, he still felt his joints stiffening from the cold. This seemed to be an attack aimed at the spirit body.
Yet Morien still did not move.
His lips lifted high.
Suddenly, he spun around and hurled the stone in his hand into the mist.
Bang!
The spinning stone flew out, and the airflow it generated directly dispersed the surrounding mist.
Bang!
A galloping horse was struck in the side by the stone. The stone drilled in from the left and flew out through the right.
A half-meter-wide hole was instantly gouged through the horse's abdomen, piercing its entire body so that one could see from one side to the other.
The horse died on the spot and crashed forward. The "knight" on its back was flung away, rolled twice across the ground, and slammed into the stone wall of a towering cliff nearby.
That was another strange creature just like the ones before.
Morien silently walked over, lifted the monster from the ground, and pinned it against the stone wall.
He glanced back at the monster corpses scattered all around, then turned his gaze back to the final monster pinned against the wall. Veins gradually bulged across his body and face.
"Aaaah!!!"
Trapped for several days in that dark, oppressive, horrifying environment, Morien let out a roar that was nothing but release, nothing but venting his rage.
He raised one hand high, clenched it into a fist, and smashed it forward with all his strength!
Black Flash!
Boom!
A tremendous explosion rang out as black lightning spread in every direction.
Bang!
That was the sound of the entire stone wall cracking apart and exploding.
Fine cracks instantly spread across the wall from that punch. Fragments of stone blasted outward, leaving behind a crater dozens of meters wide.
The monster shattered into countless scattered pieces. Even the world's best forensic examiner would not have been able to put it back together.
PS:
Coo coo, describing this kind of fist-to-fist combat was genuinely pretty satisfying.
Today's first chapter was a bonus update. There would be another chapter around noon or in the afternoon. I was going to sleep first. Good night.
