"No, don't say that." Morien reached out and accepted the three books, which did not look very thick. He flipped through them and found that he could not understand a word. "Being able to learn magic at all is already pretty good."
"My name is Morien. For the time to come, I'll be relying on you to teach me, Teacher Thops." He smiled, his voice appearing directly in Thops's mind.
"Yes, I will." Thops nodded seriously. "I look forward to learning from you as well, Morien."
As a "Waste Stone," this was his first time teaching someone else, so he could not help feeling a little nervous.
Their conversation paused for the moment, and only then did Thops have the spare attention to notice Morien's unusual way of speaking.
However, he was only slightly envious and did not think much of it.
After all, abilities that could make one's voice appear directly in another person's mind were rare, but not unheard of.
It could only mean that Morien's talent for magic might truly be exceptional.
"By the way, Teacher Thops, do you usually live in the church?" Morien asked.
"No." Thops shook his head and pointed in a direction. "There's a village over there. I live there."
A village?
Morien thought back.
He did not remember there being a village nearby.
Then again, the game could not possibly have recreated the entirety of the Lands Between.
It seemed that the old thief had hidden every player-friendly area in the game.
Worthy of Blade of the Toad.
"So, Teacher, do you need ten Runes to spend in the village?" Morien asked curiously.
"That's right." Thops nodded. "Ten Runes are enough for me to get by quite comfortably for half a month."
"Is that so?" Morien nodded.
So that was the price level here.
Looking at Morien, Thops asked with concern,
"Morien, where is your Finger Maiden?"
In the Lands Between, every Tarnished had a Finger Maiden who could help them transform Runes into strength.
"I probably don't have a Witch." Morien shook his head.
He had been here for several days now, yet he had never seen his Witch.
Either she was dead, or she had never existed in the first place.
Morien personally leaned toward the latter.
"I see." Thops spoke regretfully. "Please accept my condolences."
He had misunderstood.
In many people's eyes, Tarnished and Finger Maidens were seen as ominous.
Because of this, the Lands Between had once even seen a large-scale campaign to hunt Witches.
Thops believed that Morien's Witch had likely been hunted down by someone who hated Tarnished and Finger Maidens.
Morien shrugged and spread his hands without explaining. He felt that this was just fine.
It was nothing more than a way of using energy.
He was a Mystery Pryer. At worst, after advancing to Warlock, he could figure out for himself how to convert Runes into strength.
"Oh, right, Teacher." Morien showed an exceedingly innocent smile. "There are probably some things you'll need to teach me from the beginning."
"Before that, though, you'd better keep yourself healthy enough. If you collapse before I do, I'll have to take care of you, and my tuition will have been wasted."
As he spoke, Morien casually placed a hand on Thops's shoulder.
White Cursed Energy flared up, producing positive energy through the Reverse Cursed Technique.
"Hm?" Thops looked puzzled.
Morien held the books under one arm and smiled.
"I can't read."
As his words fell, Thops suddenly felt the exhaustion that had plagued him for so long and the hidden injuries within his body slowly recovering. Even the organs weakened by prolonged malnutrition gradually began returning to normal.
Aside from the slight crystallization caused by researching Glintstone Sorcery, most of his bodily functions were recovering.
"What is this?" Thops's eyes widened in shock.
One month later.
Ripples spread through the Synchronization Space, and Morien, dressed in a black sorcerer's robe, stepped out.
"Yo, you're here?" Star Rail Morien greeted him.
"Where are the others?" Elden Ring Morien looked around.
Star Rail Morien shrugged without answering.
The two high-fived and synchronized their memories.
Elden Ring Morien's experiences from the past month appeared in Star Rail Morien's mind.
A month had passed in the Elden Ring world.
In merely the first half of that month, Morien, as a Mystery Pryer, had successfully learned all of Thops's magical knowledge.
That included not only the three spells he had initially mentioned, but also some foundational magical knowledge.
Morien had also, out of curiosity, taught Thops some knowledge of ritual magic, wanting to see what this "Waste Stone," who possessed immense comprehension but had been ostracized since childhood, might come up with.
To his surprise, Thops actually succeeded.
The theory he was supposed to develop in the future, just before his death, had appeared ahead of time.
He discovered that, in the Lands Between, magic based on magical power and incantations based on faith were fundamentally interconnected.
Recently, he had begun researching whether he could create a force field through some sort of ritual that could repel all forms of energy attacks.
He had thrown himself into his research so completely that he had even put aside his once-cherished dream of "returning to the Academy of Magic."
Unlike in the original story, where he worked himself to death at his desk, Thops's body was far healthier now thanks to Morien's Reverse Cursed Technique.
"I'm planning to recommend him to Demoness Sellen," Elden Ring Morien said.
He had already left the small town where Thops lived and set out alone for the Weeping Peninsula.
He was going there to find the sealed great Demoness Sellen.
"A bunch of mediocrities can't see how amazing Thops is, but I don't believe Demoness Sellen won't."
"You should be careful. Against a great Demoness who appears once in a century, the ability of 'Déjà Vu' might not be very effective," Star Rail Morien reminded him.
Using favorability items to raise someone's affection was certainly useful, but probably no one would want their emotions controlled by others.
"If she notices it directly, it's not impossible that her favorability will drop to nothing." Star Rail Morien shook his head.
The Moriens rarely used Lonely Monster's ability, "Déjà Vu," on anyone other than ordinary people. They mostly used it to get discounts when buying groceries.
They had only used it on non-ordinary people twice.
Once on Dagon, and once on Thops.
Although Thops would one day develop a theory that overturned the entire magical world, he was, at present, still only a third-rate mage.
As for Dagon—
They had used it, so they had used it. He was an enemy anyway, so it did not matter even if he noticed and his favorability rapidly plummeted.
But Demoness Sellen was different.
Morien was going to study under her. He needed to raise her favorability.
Pulling little tricks like this was not advisable.
"I know." Elden Ring Morien waved a hand casually. "I'm not that stupid."
"True enough. We're all pretty smart." Star Rail Morien grinned.
The two chatted for a while longer before leaving the Synchronization Space one after the other.
Soon, the Synchronization Space fell silent.
