Enemy Army's Strategy
When Lin Yu opened his eyes again, three days had already passed. When the others in the camp saw him, they hurriedly said, "You really are lucky. You survived wounds like those. Enough talk—you rest on your own. We're heading out to train." Lin Yu quickly nodded. Soon, he was the only one left in the tent.
"Three days already? I wonder how things are over there. Forget it. I'd better deal with the trouble here as soon as possible!" Lin Yu sat up and used spiritual power to restore his flesh and blood. Though his injuries had improved greatly, he was still far from fully recovered.
By noon, Lin Yu opened his eyes and finally said, "It's about time. Time to rest..." The soldiers naturally returned to camp after their afternoon training, so he could not keep sitting cross-legged there.
Lin Yu lay straight down on the bed. He could feel a foul stench coming from his body—the smell given off by blood that had not been properly cleaned away after it congealed.
"One sword slays the body, yet ultimately tempers the physique." That was Lin Yu's realization from the morning. Afterward, someone from the camp carried food inside. One of them patted Lin Yu and called, "Bing Sheng, Bing Sheng! Didn't you wake up this morning? Why are you asleep again? Get up and have some porridge."
Lin Yu had already awakened. If he really sat up without feeling even the slightest pain, that would have been somewhat abnormal. Baring his teeth, Lin Yu sat up and took a sip of steaming porridge, finally suppressing the hunger that had built up over the past three days.
"Ah, Zhang Shuai really is something else. He won't even let the wounded eat more. Is one bowl enough?" Another person ran over and asked. Lin Yu swiftly shook his head. If he only ate one bowl, it would be digested before long...
"Fine! Drink this portion first. I'll go get another bowl." Such was the difference between training and recuperating. Lin Yu shook his head helplessly. Judging from the situation here, there had been no fighting these past three days. That was the best news he had learned since infiltrating this place. Time had passed quickly indeed.
"Thank you, brother. If I can still fight another day, I will surely repay this kindness." The two men both smiled. They were comrades-in-arms. If they had been the ones lying in bed, what would Lin Yu have done?
After saying that, Lin Yu lay down again and fell into a deep sleep. His injuries had mostly healed, but he still needed to recover a little more.
Night soon descended. A day of recovery had made Lin Yu feel much better. Seeing everyone return, joy showed on his face as he said, "You're back. I think I'll be able to train with you tomorrow."
Now that he had almost recovered, he would not continue lazing in bed. He had not forgotten why he had come here in the first place.
"Hm? Are you sure there's nothing wrong with your body?" Someone beside him was still somewhat doubtful. Lin Yu's recovery was, honestly, simply too fast—so fast it could be called unbelievable.
"I'm really fine now. Thank you all for your concern. You've all eaten already, right? I'll head out for a bit." Lin Yu left with a grin. The others watched him for a moment, and seeing that he could get out of bed, they knew he had recovered.
"In the middle of the night, what's he going out for..."
"What do you think it feels like not to relieve yourself for three days?" Hearing that, everyone burst into laughter. They each went to their beds, stretched lazily, and turned in just like that.
"Tch. The commander's tent is set up so conspicuously. Are they afraid people won't notice it?" The commander's tent was different from the other tents. It was at least two or three times larger, and even had patterns on it. It was truly too conspicuous. Lin Yu found it without the slightest effort.
Inside the commander's tent...
"Speak, all of you generals! Is there any way to drive straight at the imperial city and take the Ancient Emperor dog's head..." When Zhang Shuai said this, his gaze turned cold. He did not feel there was anything wrong with it in the slightest.
The generals exchanged glances. Yan Ting stepped forward, bowed, and said, "Zhang Shuai, I think it is time to deploy that group of cultivators. Otherwise, even the city before us will be somewhat difficult to breach." Outside, Lin Yu narrowed his eyes. He had truly not expected there to be cultivators in this camp—and more than one at that.
"No. Now is absolutely not the time. If we send them out now, I fear they will have to withdraw before they even reach the place. Let us think of another method." Zhang Shuai directly rejected Yan Ting's proposal, then quickly returned and sat down.
"Zhang Shuai, we have recently studied the map and discovered something..." Yan Fei's suggestion suddenly broke the deadlock. Zhang Shuai gave him a look telling him to continue, and only then did he speak on. "Zhang Shuai, Tianling City has the most abundant spiritual power between the Flame Emperor Domain and the Ancient Emperor Domain. Furthermore, I discovered that mountain ranges surround the city on all sides. If archers were to fire downward from above..."
Everyone's eyes lit up. If that were the case, Tianling City would surely fall. He then continued, "A fine strategy, a fine strategy indeed!"
"Zhang Shuai, as far as I know, the distance from our camp to those mountains is not short!" Yan Ting poured a bucket of cold water over the idea. Yan Fei did not say another word.
"Eh, what's the big deal? It's just marching. Three thousand men forming an encirclement will be enough—more than enough." Lin Yu narrowed his eyes. They intended to slaughter the city's civilians along with everyone else! The commanders of this Flame Emperor army truly were unfit for their posts.
"Zhang Shuai, the civilians in the city..." One general interjected from the side, causing everyone to shake their heads. This was something that should never have been brought up. Once it was mentioned, trouble was bound to come knocking.
"Civilians? Are they our civilians? Kill them all. Just breach the city and charge in. Zhang Qingchun, why do you grow more timid the older you get? Forget it. You will not go this time. Let Yan Tian and Yan Ting lead the men instead! Hear my command, generals." Everyone cupped their fists. Zhang Shuai continued, "This ambush must be completed in three days. Fireworks will be the signal. In three days, massacre the city and storm into Tianling City."
This time, Lin Yu understood why he had sensed that powerful spiritual power when he first arrived. This man wanted a spiritual city, even if it left all living things drowned in blood. What immense karma that would create...
Crack. A crisp sound came from beneath Lin Yu's foot. Cold sweat instantly broke out across his body, and in the blink of an eye, he vanished.
"Who is it? Get out here!" Lin Yu had already left. Those generals came outside and looked around before saying, "Perhaps we heard wrong?" Lin Yu drew a long breath. This time, it could truly be called peril at every turn. He slowly exhaled and left the camp. Right now, he still did not know how to face his own commander, Mo Ce.
After all, the past three days had passed in something of a blur. It all depended on whether Mo Ce believed him...
