"A task?"
A terrible feeling suddenly rose in Isabella's heart.
"Of course! Oh-ho-ho! Your task to slaughter Ice Giant Wolves starts now! Work hard for a better life!"
Little Lily waved her illusory arms at Isabella in encouragement.
"And unless you're about to die, this witch won't help you!"
When Isabella heard she would have to face the Ice Giant Wolves alone, her face went deathly pale. She looked ready to collapse.
"I... I..." She opened her mouth, but bitterness choked off her words.
Deep down, she did not believe she had the strength to kill such powerful beasts.
"Every Destroyer has fought through countless battles to get where they are. They may have been fortunate enough to catch the eye of a Demon God, but without effort of their own, they'd still amount to nothing! Even I started as a frail little girl and made my way here step by step. My father didn't help me. I relied on myself!" Lily said quietly.
"If you want to keep living like this—a lowly 'mudblood,' as the Wizards call you, ordered around every day and groveling for scraps of food—then don't go. I'll just have to admit that I, Lily Baal, misjudged you!"
Little Lily went on mercilessly, ignoring Isabella's increasingly pale face.
"All... all right! I'll go!"
Isabella gritted her teeth and finally made up her mind.
Though this girl from the Wizard Plane was not even ten years old, she was already willing to risk her life for power.
Poor children grew up fast. It was as simple as that.
