Five days after the exhibition, on Friday evening, the afterglow of the setting sun filtered through the blinds of the school innovation clubroom, cutting streaks of golden light across the floor. Gwen hummed as she bent down to gather the parts left over from the exhibition. The clinking of metal wrenches sounded especially clear in the silent room.

Wanda sat at the long table, leafing through her experiment notes. Her red hair draped over the pages as she occasionally made annotations beside the formulas with a pencil. Li stood by the window, watching the sky gradually darken, his fingers unconsciously tapping the windowsill as if he were deep in thought.

"Wait..." Gwen suddenly straightened up, her brows drawing tightly together. Her gaze swept over the tool rack. The wrenches and screwdrivers that had originally been neatly arranged by size now lay scattered everywhere, and several boxes of screws had even spilled onto the floor, their metal surfaces gleaming coldly in the sunset. "Look, someone's been in here." There was a note of wariness in her voice as her sneakers crushed a screw on the floor with a faint clatter.

Wanda looked up, puzzled, set down her pencil, and walked over to the tool rack. Her fingertips lightly brushed across the disturbed tools, as though she could sense a strange lingering presence. Just then, a note tucked inside her notebook slipped free and fluttered onto the table covered in parts.

On the note, a Mechanical Flower drawn in black marker twisted grotesquely, its petals spiraling in an eerie pattern, the gears at its center seeming to spin madly. Beside it was a line of nearly illegible scrawl: "Your work interests me greatly."

"Whose prank is this?" Gwen snatched up the note and turned it over repeatedly, her nails scraping against its edges with a soft rustle.

Her ponytail swayed back and forth with the motion, and her eyes were full of confusion. "Could another club be jealous that our exhibition was such a success? The people from the tech club were looking at us strangely last week."

But the instant Li saw the note, his face turned deathly pale, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

As a transmigrator, he knew all too well what this meant. In the comics, MODOK's signature twisted mechanical style looked exactly like the design on that note. MODOK was obsessed with technology that fused biology and machinery, and their Mechanical Flower was undoubtedly a massive magnet drawing in that dangerous being. He forced himself to remain calm, but his throat felt as though something were lodged in it, making his voice tighten. "Don't let your guard down. This may not be an ordinary joke."

Wanda looked at Li in confusion, her emerald-green eyes filled with incomprehension. "It's just a strange note. How dangerous could it be? Could it possibly be scarier than a circuit exploding during one of our experiments?" She tried to ease the tension with a joke, but the corners of her lips failed to rise completely.

Li had just opened his mouth to explain when the chandelier overhead began to flicker violently. The tubes emitted a piercing buzz, plunging the room into an eerie rhythm of light and darkness. Without warning, the classroom projector switched on by itself, casting a blue image onto the wall: a figure with a huge, deformed head beneath a domed helmet.

The man's skin had a cold, metallic gray sheen, while his limbs were as thin as dead branches. Seated upon a mechanical throne covered in spikes, he spoke in an eerie mechanical voice, every word seeming to be squeezed from rusty gears. "Young inventors, that Mechanical Flower that can repair itself and interact with its surroundings is the key to opening a new world. I will come to take it." Before his words had faded, the image flashed away, leaving only a blurry AIM emblem flickering on the screen like a blood-red eye.

Wanda involuntarily stepped back, her back striking the lab table behind her with a dull thud. Her eyes widened, and her lips trembled slightly. "Who is that? He looks... so terrifying." A faint scarlet glow rose uncontrollably from her fingertips, staining the surrounding shadows blood-red.

Li drew a deep breath and tried to keep his voice calm. "His name is MODOK, an important figure in AIM. That organization specializes in all sorts of dangerous biological and mechanical experiments, and MODOK is obsessed with biomechanical fusion technology. Our Mechanical Flower probably struck a nerve with him." Countless images flashed through his mind—innocent lives that MODOK had mechanically altered in the comics.

"MODOK? I've never heard that name before." Wanda's face was full of confusion. She pressed a hand to her chest, trying to calm her racing heart. "But if he has his eye on our work, we absolutely can't let him succeed!" Her gaze gradually hardened as Chaos Magic gathered in her palm into a small sphere of energy.

Gwen clenched her fists, the metal bracelets on her wrists chiming crisply. "That's right! We'll upgrade the Mechanical Flower and set up a defense system. Since he wants it, we'll set a trap for him! Let him have a taste of being consumed by his own ambition." She strode to the workbench and grabbed the blueprints, excitement and fighting spirit shining in her eyes as though she were about to embark on a thrilling adventure.

Over the next three days, the clubroom became a busy battlefield. Drawing on what he remembered from reading the comics about MODOK, Li rapidly wrote defense plans across the blackboard, chalk dust falling onto his shoulders. "Gwen, add a virus program to the Mechanical Flower's energy system. If an outsider connects to it, it'll trace their location in return. But remember, set up multiple layers of disguise programs. MODOK's hacking skills are no joke." There was a hint of anxiety in his voice. From time to time, he looked out the window, always feeling as if a pair of eyes were watching from the darkness.

Wearing goggles and holding a laser welder, Gwen let sparks fly before her. "Don't worry! I'll also add an electromagnetic pulse device. If any stranger gets close, we'll give them a rude welcome first!" Her ponytail was blown about by the fan behind her, and her focused expression made her look as though she were forging an unrivaled weapon.

Wanda sat in the corner with her eyes closed, sweat beading across her forehead. Her hands moved slowly through the air as scarlet threads of energy spread like a spiderweb over the entire room, sensing every fluctuation of energy around them. "With me here, no unusual signal will escape." Her voice was weak, but filled with determination.

Late at night, the entire campus had fallen asleep, yet the lights in the clubroom still burned. Outside the window, a shadowy figure wearing a domed helmet watched the three busy students through a telescope. A sinister smile curled across his lips, while his mechanical throne gleamed coldly beneath the moonlight. "The Mechanical Flower will soon be mine... Then the entire world will witness AIM's greatness..."

The shadowy figure murmured softly, then melted into the night, leaving behind only the faint sound of machinery turning, echoing through the silent campus.
