In a council chamber in Mary Geoise, five old men stood or sat around the room. They were the World Government's decision-makers: the Five Elders.
"This is outrageous. He killed Saint Bernal, a fellow Dragon Person. We can't just let this go."
The speaker was an Elder with a strange handlebar mustache and a birthmark on his forehead.
The other four looked at him in surprise.
"Have you decided to side with that Family?"
An Elder in a white robe, a Famous Sword in his hand, fixed the speaker with a sharp gaze.
Silence fell over the room again.
"Let it run its course. We should not interfere, and we have no right to. Tend to your own affairs. If anyone reaches too far, I'll cut off his hand."
The sword-bearing Elder's voice had turned cold.
"Agreed."
"I agree."
"Let them settle it themselves."
The Elder with the birthmark looked displeased.
"If that's what you all think, we'll leave it at that. But there must never be another conflict like this."
The sword-bearing Elder gave a cold laugh.
"So you sided with them because you don't believe in Anita's abilities. You'll regret it."
The room fell silent.
