After some time at sea, the Buggy Pirates finally reached the far side of the island.
To Buggy's delight, there wasn't a single ship along this shore. Apart from the sound of the waves, everything was quiet.
"Something's off, Buggy. Even if there's no gold here, someone should have landed on this side. And what's that rumbling in the distance? Haven't you noticed the whole island's shaking?"
R was the first to sense that something was wrong, and he was reluctant to go ashore.
Buggy didn't want to land either, but circumstances left him no choice. He absolutely couldn't lose face in front of his crew. The consequences would be disastrous.
"Ahem. It's decided. We land here. See that gold scattered around? Boys, haul it onto the ship. We're here for gold, not a war."
The eerie calm made Buggy nervous, so rather than venture farther inland, he sent his men to collect the gold scattered along the shore.
At the sight of the gold, his crew cheered and began filling every container they could find.
"Buggy, once we've picked up this gold, we're leaving. This place feels wrong. There isn't a soul in sight."
R silently swore he would never go anywhere with Buggy again. The man was hopelessly unreliable. All his crew had to do was praise him, and he lost his head.
The memory that stuck with R most was the Summit War. Egged on by his men, Buggy had actually gone to provoke Whitebeard. R had nearly wet himself. That was Whitebeard, one of the Four Emperors—Edward Newgate!
As the pirates gathered gold amid laughter and cheers, a whistle suddenly sounded overhead. A dark shape hurtled past above them.
Crash! The shape slammed into the Buggy Pirates' ship at tremendous speed, smashing through the cabin.
