One of Kaido's men cut down Wano Country's samurai with his cutlass. Blood sprayed across his face, making the Pirate look like a demon from hell.
After he slashed halfway through a samurai's neck, the samurai tilted his head and trapped the cutlass fast.
Blood spurted several yards from his severed artery. Even so, the samurai thrust his Uchigatana into the Pirate's chest.
The pirate stared at his chest in disbelief. Realizing his heart had been pierced, he snarled, drew a pistol from his waist with his free hand, and fired straight into the samurai's face.
The samurai's face burst apart like a smashed watermelon, and he toppled backward.
The pirate's expression grew even more frenzied. As he aimed his pistol at another samurai, a gleaming Uchigatana swept across his neck.
Kaido's men fought without fear of death, but they had not frightened Wano Country's samurai.
And Kaido's men cared just as little that the samurai were ready to die.
Every Pirate had staked his life the moment he joined the Beasts Pirates.
"Brothers, hold fast! We can't be driven back! Lord Kaido is right behind us!"
For all their fearlessness, Kaido's men were weaker on average than Wano Country's samurai.
Kaido's men began to give ground.
The battle had only just begun. Apart from breaking through the wall at the start, Werther had not made another move.
If he joined the fight now, he would only kill a few more samurai. It would do little for the war and needlessly drain his strength.
