Their sudden all-out assault caught Dragon and Red-Haired's forces off guard.
"What's going on? Why launch a full assault now? Aren't they going to exchange fire first? They're going straight into close combat?"
"Form a defensive line! Prepare to meet them!"
"Where's my gun? What the hell is happening?"
It was five in the morning. One young Revolutionary Army soldier had been jolted awake and could not even find his gun.
It was not that Dragon and Red-Haired's forces had let down their guard. Werther's troops had assembled along the front line the day before and remained on standby, ready to fight at any moment.
Less than twenty minutes passed between Werther's arrival at the front and the launch of the assault. It was only natural that the other side struggled to react.
