The sound came from a Marine-issue leather shoe stepping onto the doorframe. Loa looked over. Sure enough, the only person in the Elite Camp who wore shoes like that besides him was Simon, with his family's generations of Marine service.
"What? Here to make fun of me again?" The sight of Simon set Loa off. He scowled and shot him a sidelong glare.
If it hadn't been for this guy, Loa would have finished showing off just now.
Simon paid no mind to Loa's irritation. He walked Stillness to the bedside and picked up the basket of fruit. "I don't think you need these in your current state, so I'll take them back and make a salad. Oh, right..."
He pointed toward the corner, diverting Loa's attention before he could erupt. "There's ice in the freezer over there. Eat that if you get hungry."
With that, Simon hugged the fruit to his chest and fled without looking back.
He had barely shut the door and had yet to breathe a sigh of relief when several ice spears punched through the infirmary's wooden door and kept flying straight at him.
Simon dropped into a desperate roll to dodge them, then scrambled away on all fours.
