Prometheus the Sun floated a few inches above the ground and asked the dark figure beside him. The two Homies had abandoned their usual round forms. Now their upper bodies resembled muscular men, each with a gold bracelet around one wrist. Below the waist, Thundercloud and Flame coiled in spirals as they hovered silently in the air.
The two Homies looked more like the Lamp Spirit from the tale of Aladdin's Lamp. Unlike Blue Fatso, though, one was black and the other orange, a striking contrast. Perhaps these were their true forms.
"Dying?"
Zeus the Thundercloud blinked. "We were natural phenomena without life or consciousness. Mama gave us wills of our own. If by 'death' you mean our bodies returning to natural phenomena, then no, I'm not afraid."
But you'd be afraid of losing your will, wouldn't you?
For once, Prometheus did not argue with Zeus. After all, he felt the same way. People said you only appreciated something after losing it, but that assumed you had possessed it in the first place. For them, "you only appreciated something once you had it" was more fitting.
They had once had nothing. They had not even known what they lacked. That was why they cherished everything they had now.
True, the source of their movement and their wills was the human souls Charlotte Linlin had placed inside them. But they themselves were the ones carrying out those wills now.
It was a philosophical question. If they explored it properly, even a whole night would not be enough.
And they did not have that much time left.
