Earlier, the terrifying malice at the cave entrance had frightened him too much to go inside. But once he learned that his father had become an Undead, all his old grievances vanished. All that remained was a son worried about his father, and that gave him the courage to enter the dangerous cave.
He edged through the dark cave one step at a time. Suddenly, he heard earth scraping somewhere ahead. Swallowing nervously, Loke asked, "Father, is that you?"
There was no answer. Instead, the noise abruptly grew louder, as though something were sprinting toward him.
Roar!
A beastlike roar echoed through the cavern. Less than a second later, a huge black shadow appeared before Loke!
The cave was cramped for a Giant. Loke instinctively tried to draw his sword, but before he had pulled it halfway out, the ceiling stopped the massive blade.

His heart sank. As he looked at the fist hurtling toward him, he recognized the lines on its fingers and the discolored scar. It was his father's hand.
