At night, Ye Chen had noticed nothing unusual near Gray Terminal. But when daylight came, the sight before him left him stunned.
Garbage stretched as far as the eye could see. Even the air felt sinister, like a ghostly mist. When the wind blew, trash flew everywhere, and the stench was so thick it was hard to breathe.
Many people lived here. Every so often, he passed a hunched figure rummaging through the heaps.
"I'm rich! I found something good!"
Someone waved a string of jewels in excitement and shouted.
He regretted it the moment the words left his mouth. Two shifty-looking men were already closing in on him.
Ye Chen saw scavengers everywhere. They paid no mind to the filth or the smell. But men carrying Steel Sabers roamed among them in twos and threes, their eyes fierce and their swagger insufferable.
Whenever someone found anything valuable, those men charged over like rabid dogs.
"Old man, get over here. What's in that bag on your back?"
An old man with graying hair had just tried to leave with a tattered cloth sack when someone stopped him.
The old man was bent with age, his back hunched, yet Ye Chen felt there was more to him than met the eye.
A moment ago, Ye Chen had clearly sensed a powerful aura from him. It had quickly vanished, as though the old man had deliberately concealed it.
"Ah..."
The old man answered and hurried over with a smile. The man snatched the sack from him and upended it, spilling everything inside. Finding nothing valuable, he kicked it in irritation and barked, "Get lost!"
"Hm?"
Then his gaze fell on Ye Chen. Seeing his decent clothes and the Two Swords at his waist, he beckoned. "Kid, come here."
"Me? You're calling me?"
